Nederburg’s 2014 II Centuries Sauvignon Blanc is lively, focused and fruit-forward with a nervy acidity that makes it crisply satisfying and refreshing. New cellar-master Andrea Freeborough says that with its abundance of flavour, from herbaceous and asparagus characters to green fig, gooseberry and citrus, it is a typical example of what has become known as the South African-style Sauvignon.
Chosen as one of the wines in the 2015 FNB Sauvignon Blanc Top 10, it has also been scored 92 points by Tim Atkin MW. It is made from individually selected bunches, picked from specific Oranjefontein vines in Darling, where cooling afternoon Atlantic breezes concentrate flavours.
It was fermented in French oak and spent 12 months in wood to amplify its depth and complexity.
The wine is available from www.vinoteque.co.za .
