Warm up with Fairview Goatshed Winter Food & Wine Dinners!

The Goatshed Restaurant’s annual series of famous winter dinners is back with a 2018 twist!

From the 25th of May to the end of September 2018, the Goatshed – which is usually a day venue – will be open on eight selected evenings and will serve a multi-course paired menu.

Under floor heating, wood fires and soul-warming wines will melt the cold Cape Town winter, allowing guests to fully enjoy the exceptional quality of Fairview’s fresh farm produce.

This year, Fairview Wine and Cheese have decided to introduce a strong relationship between the food and wine pairings, by complementing the Goatshed dinners with their most food-focused wine range, titled the Regional Revival Range.

Each wine is brimming with an enticing story to tell, as well as orientated with a specific wine region in mind. To give an example, their first dinner coming up on the 25th May 2018: The Homtini Italian Dinner, is linked to their wine maker Anthony de Jager’s Italian ancestry.

His ancestors were silk farmers from Northern Italy who immigrated to South Africa; specifically around the Homtini pass near Knysna, under a misconception that mulberry trees grew in abundance. ‘Homtini’ translates as a ‘difficult passage’ in a long-forgotten Khoi language, and through hard work de Jager’s ancestors ultimately prospered in other trades, including wine-making.

The wine is crafted to go perfectly with Italian-style dishes, such as tomato-based sauces, breads and cheese.

For an idea of what delights to expect, the first dinner’s menu is as follows:

Antipasti
Selection of cured meats (Mortadella, Salami, Coppa, Pastrami)
Freshly baked breads (Ciabatta, Focaccia)
Mozzarella, tomato & herb pesto salad
Goats’ cheese & caramelized onion Bruschetta
Fegato d’anatra (duck liver) paté
