The 5 Second Rule

Do you still eat your food after its been on the floor? That’s the million dollar question for today!

I probably wouldn’t eat a salad that’s been on the floor but if I had dropped my favourite biscuits, that would be another story altogether – I would be faced with a serious dilemma! Not that I would ever drop them on the floor – but you can never be too careful! I love those biscuits. I don’t know if you have ever heard of the 5 second rule: It basically states that as long as you pick the food up before five seconds have passed, the food should not get contaminated. There is even a Wikipedia article on it. Sadly someone at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign and even MythBusters have found this rule to be flawed!

Therefore, I went looking for set of alternative rules that would help me determine if I should eat food that’s been dropped on the floor: I have found something. And I like it!

The 5 second Rule
