Winter Menu at Harvest at Laborie

Harvest at Laborie invites you to sit back, relax and enjoy your time spent at the wine estate. Their passionate team of chefs take care in sourcing the highest quality produce from in and around Paarl … from the freshest fish to succulent and perfectly aged steaks, free-range chicken and eggs, and where possible, herbs and veggies from their fresh herb and vegetable garden.

Harvest Restaurant will be offering two set course menu options during winter. A 2 courses set menu is available for R130 per person while 3 courses can be enjoyed for R155 per person. These will be available for lunch on Mondays – Fridays and available for dinner on Wednesdays & Thursdays.  Dishes include grilled black mushrooms, cajun-spiced chicken burger, tempura fried hake among many others. Den Anker Winter Menu 2013

Menus at Den Anker revolve round fresh, seasonal dishes like just-caught crayfish or herring flown in from Europe. Specialities range from generous pots of mussels and frites to traditional South African fare; gourmet temptations from foie gras brulee to velvet-smooth chocolates from a top Belgian chocolatier.

From the 1st of June to the 15th of September, Den Anker is offering a great winter menu that includes fresh oysters, beef carpaccio, coq au vin, risotto, chocolate fondants among other great dishes. You can either choose to order two courses (starter/dessert + main) at R130 per person or for R150 and receive a starter, main & dessert.

Cabernet and Venison Evening with Cuvee

The winter hunting season has begun at Cuvee Restaurant on Simonsig Wine Estate with a venison feast perfectly paired with their deep red Labyrinth Cabernet Sauvignon. Enjoy a 5 course meal with a 10% discount on all wines purchased during the Cabernet and Venison evenings.

The menu includes a Biltong Soup, Kudu carpaccio, Verjuice refresher, Springbok shank and an organge pudding. This evening will be hosted on two occasions: 15th of June & 13th of July starting at 19h00. Booking is essential: R295 per person.

You can satisfy your craving at Gourmet Boerie at the bottom of Kloof street in Buitenkloof Studios, complete with two 53” high definition plasma screens, free Wifi, and traditional boerewors packs and other delicious merchandise for sale. The boerie is cooked in the traditional South African way, by steaming it first, locking in all the juices and then browning it on the grill.

The Rhebokskloof Lamb Shank Recipe

Rhebokskloof Wine Estate hosted several Shank & Shiraz dinner evenings recently. For all the chefs out there, they have made their very own Rhebokskloof Lamb Shank recipe available so you can try to replicate the dish at home. Ingredients

  • Braised lamb shank in red wine sauce with a rustic olive mash
  • Ingredients
  • Lamb shank 350g
  • Bread flour 5g
  • Red wine 375ml
  • Vegetable stock 1500ml
  • Salt 2g
  • Fine pepper 2g
  • Oil 20ml
  • Olives 25g
  • Medium onion 1
  • Medium potato 2
  • Button mushrooms 2
  • Baby Carrots 3
  • Cherry tomatoes 2

Method

  1. Heat oil in pan, season and flour the shank
  2. Seal the shank all round, add onion and brown the meat
  3. Add the red wine and stock. Simmer for 2 hours until very tender
  4. Boil the potato until soft then grate the potato.Add olives and season. Fold all ingredients until a mash is created.
  5. Grill the mushrooms and tomato and steam the carrots till tender
  6. Plate the mash first in the center of the plate, place the shank on top.
  7. Place the tomatoes, mushrooms and tomato on the side and drizzle the red wine jus over the shank.

‘Seeds of Truth’ Coffee Cups

NATIVE & TRUTH COFFEE have teamed up to transform disposable coffee cups into herb containers, – one takeaway fix at a time. They have reinvented the humble takeaway cup, implanting herb seeds in the protectore ring for the Seeds of Truth Project.

Once you have downed your last drop of java, scrunch up your paper protector containing the seeds and drop it into the cup, add soil, water and a bit of patience and voila – herbs will sprout. The beautifully desgined cups are biodegradable and can be planted in your garden, leaving a green reminder that a little bit of truth can go a long way.

The limited edition Seeds of Truth coffee cups, designed by illustrator Christiaan Venter, will be available at Truth at 36 Buitenkant Street, Cape Town while stocks last. Choose from basil, rocket, or thyme and don’t forget to add the engraved stick stirrer to your cup so you know which herb is which.
