The Marine in Hermanus presents the Final Winter Gourmet Food & Wine Evening with Lomond Wines

The Marine in Hermanus promises to deliver gourmet gold once more at the final food and wine pairing dinner of the winter season, to be held on Saturday 27 August 2022.

The gastronomic event will feature the wines of Lomond which is situated near the southernmost tip of Africa at Cape Agulhas, 8km from the fishing village of Gansbaai and within sight of the sea.

With new head chef Oelof Voster leading the culinary team at The Marine, diners are in for an epicurean adventure co-hosted by Lomond winemaker Hannes Meyer in the iconic Pavilion Restaurant. Guests will be welcomed with a glass of Lomond Sauvignon Blanc 2022 and mouth-watering canapés of Miso aubergine tartlet, cream cheese and lentils, as well as Confit lamb shoulder croquette, harissa and herb aioli.

What’s on the Menu?

  • The first course starts with Beetroot carpaccio, beetroot purée, Belnori chevin, crudités and lemon vinaigrette, perfectly paired with the Pincushion Sauvignon Blanc 2021. This leads to a second dish of Free-range confit chicken, pomme purée, pickle shimejis and pepper velouté, served with a glass of Cat’s Tail Single Vineyard Syrah 2019.
  • The mains course will wow with locally sourced Roasted lamb rump, minted pea purée, butternut, charred onion, baby carrots and jus, and the perfect accompaniment of Belladonna SMV 2018. This single vineyard red blend consists of Shiraz, Mouvedre and Viognier, and is named after the Amarylis Belladonna, a vulnerable listed plant species endemic to the Agulhas Region.
  • Ending things on a sweet and memorable note, taste buds will be sent travelling with the final course of Marine pasteis de nata, honey and tonka bean ice-cream, served with the liquid gold of Lomond Noble Late Harvest 2019.

The cost of R645 per person includes a welcome drink with canapés, the 4-course dinner with wine pairing, and tea and coffee. Special accommodation offers are available to diners who would like to spoil themselves with an overnight stay or a staycation weekend in the charming seaside town.
