Social Dining has a new friend!

Chef patron Julia Hattingh has recently opened Reverie Social Table: a proudly South African table d’hôte style eatery located in the quirky neighbourhood of Observatory in Cape Town. The focus is solely on social dining, where guests are invited to sit around a 18-seater table and enjoy a five course meal. With so many restaurants in Cape Town, it’s a breath of fresh air to see a chef/patron try something different in this very competitive space. While the concept of social dining isn’t new for Cape Town, the focus on fine dining, ever-changing menu and premium wines is something to behold.

The message is simple: Put away your cell phones and engage with the other guests at the table. It’s the perfect setting for those who love food, wine & great company.

It has always been a dream of mine to have a table d’hôte style eatery, where guests can come into my space and I serve them as if they were my friends and family. Everyone is welcome; from the friends out for dinner to the lone traveller.” – Chef Hattingh.

Every day, a 5 course dinner paired with 5 wines will be served in the evening, with bookings being essential. This menu changes all the time, depending on seasonal & fresh ingredients available on that very day. If you have special dietary requirements, please make sure to mention this when making the booking. Payment (R700) can be made online or at the venue.

During the day the restaurant is also open, where you can enjoy the use of free wi-fi, while a plat du jour will be offered for lunch.

We were invited to the opening of Reverie Social Table a couple of weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed the full social experience. Because of the opportunities that food-blog has given us, I have come to love meeting new people over food & wine. I hope many more Captonians will love this concept as well. The price may be a sticking point for some, but if you appreciate fine cuisine, premium wines and love to meet interesting people in the process, Reverie Social Table is the place to be.
