Sip Through Time at Jordan Wine Estate This Old Vine Day

On 1 August, South Africa raises a glass to its vinous elders—those noble old vines that have stood the test of time (and weather) for 35 years or more.

It’s called Old Vine Day, and at Jordan Wine Estate, the celebration is as elegant and storied as the vines themselves.

🍷 The Timepiece Tasting Experience
Daily | 10:00–16:00 | R363 pp

Jordan is honouring this heritage with a tasting that does more than pour a great glass—it pours history. Their Timepiece Tasting is a guided 45-minute journey through four wines made from vineyards planted back in 1983 by none other than Ted Jordan himself.

What started with old vine Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc has blossomed into a full collection, now including Riesling, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon—all from single-vineyard blocks and matured with care in clay amphorae and seasoned oak. These are wines that whisper stories with every sip.

🌿 Why Old Vines Matter

Certified by the Old Vine Project (OVP), these mature vines produce lower yields but wines of immense character, complexity, and a certain soulful depth that only age can bring. Think wisdom, bottled.

📍 Come Taste the Legacy

Whether you’re a seasoned wine nerd or just looking for a fresh excuse to explore Stellenbosch’s winelands, this is a tasting worth making time for. It’s not every day you get to drink something that’s been 40+ years in the making.
