Simonsig Wine Estate joins the Twelve Apostles

On Friday 26 June 2015, Leading Hotels of the World member Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa will continue its monthly Food & Wine Pairing series in Azure Restaurant, joining forces with Simonsig Wine Estate to offer a delicious gourmet dining experience. Co-hosted by Executive Chef Christo Pretorius and Simonsig winemaker Debbie Thompson, guests can look forward to a special four-course dinner paired with a selection of Simonsig vintages. Fine dining restaurant Azure will play host to this exquisite culinary experience, welcoming food and wine aficionados with breathtaking sea views, impeccable service and indulgent food and wine combinations.

On the menu

On the evening, guests may enjoy a glass of Kaapse Vonkel 2013 on arrival, followed by an Amuse Bouche of Duck Liver Ganache with pickled mustard seeds, apple gelée and citrus salt. Chef Pretorius will then present Yellowfin Tuna – marinated chickpeas, cured lemon peel, tomato salad and roast garlic aioli, which will be perfectly paired with Simonsig’s ‘The Sunbird’ Sauvignon Blanc 2015. Guests will then be treated to Sous Vide Pork Cheek with Mozambique langoustine, celeriac, white miso caramel, bisque espuma and parmesan crisp for the second course. This dish will be served with Simonsig’s Redhill Pinotage 2012.

The main course consists of Springbok Loin – kale, baby turnips, fermented mushrooms, salted dark chocolate and fig jus, beautifully matched with Simonsig’s Tiara 2011. Dinner concludes on a sweet note with a ‘Caramelia Cremeux’ dessert, consisting of hazelnut sponge, vanilla mousse, elderflower ice cream, and mango gel, accompanied by Simonsig’s Vin de Liza Noble Late Harvest 2010.
