My fridge is FULL of sauces, salsas and tapanades. Full. I am not even exagerating, we struggle to fit food in it. I am obsessed with all things spicy and salty, so I find it very difficult to stop myself from buying every new condiment that I see. And last week I found one of my new favourites.
Olyfberg sent me their new chopped olive tapenade, with thyme, rosemary, garlic, capers, lemon and black pepper. This chunky tapanade is nothing like some of finer, more paste-like versions I have lurking at the back of the fridge. It is full of flavour and texture, you can still see that it’s made from olives. The perfect balance of herbs, garlic and salt, so that it doesn’t just taste like olive, but it doesn’t only taste like seasoning – without any bitterness at all.
We use firm, fresh, top quality olives in our product, hence the healthy end result – says Pieter Kruger, farm manager at Olyfberg Olive Products.
Olyfberg suggest slapping some on a pizza, pasta, or as a filling in meat and other dishes, and I would love to give you my recommendation, but so far all I can recommend is eating half of it straight out of the jar with a teaspoon like I did.
Olyfberg Tapenade is available in a 120g glass jar at R35 per jar at selected stores, farm stalls and deli’s or order at orders@olyfberg.com. It’s also available in 500g and 1kg at R65 or R125.
