Enjoy fantastic offers with the Gautrain Summer Promotion

December is over, but it does not mean that you can’t make the most of the rest of summer. The Gautrain and its partners are running an incredible promotion that will get you to exploring everything that Joburg has to offer. It works a little something like this:

  • Buy a Gautrain card or load cash on to your existing card.
  • Ride the train to the corresponding promotion station (see table below).
  • Find the Gautrain promoter near the station’s ticket office and collect the voucher.
  • Take the Gautrain bus to the destination – the fare has been dropped to just R1!
  • If you park at the Gautrain station and you take the train for your return trip you’ll pay only R1 for your parking for the day.
  • Plus if you tune into 947, Jacaranda or Kaya FM to stand a chance to win great prizes.
  • You need to make sure you do this before the 17 of January 2016, as this is when the promotion ends.

Pretty cool right?

Now the big question: what are these vouchers actually offering you? Other than the R1 buses and parking offers, you’ll have access to the following promos.

Just remember, you need to take the Gautrain to the station nearest the location whose voucher you want. This is a great excuse to spend the next week visiting some incredible foodie destinations. Most of the hotels on this list have fantastic restaurants, talented chefs and menu prices that won’t break the bank (and with the R1 bus fare and various offers available – you could probably afford to splurge). The R20 vouchers from Hazel Food Market will mean dessert is on Gautrain!

We gave it a try: climbing on the train for an early Saturday morning ride from Johannesburg to Pretoria. Watching the city wake up from the windows of the train is something special. We hopped off at Hatfield Station and headed to the buses to catch a ride to the Hazel Food Market. There is something glorious about food markets. The hustle and bustle of the crowds, the sound of excited chatter and friends meeting as well as the smell of glorious food. The Food Market is a great spot to taste a few different dishes. As the heat of the summer sun began to beat down at around midday we headed back to the Gautrain station. The air conditioned trains are a cool reprieve from the heat and the twenty minute ride allows for the quick nap your full tummy craves. It’s the perfect Saturday morning date or excuse to catch up with friends.
