Platter’s 2016 Food & Wine Series at The Table Bay

The Table Bay’s Executive Chef Jocelyn Myers-Adams teams up with Platter’s and four local wine estates to create a special wine pairing experience that offers food enthusiasts a platform to explore the concept of “terroir”. Guests will journey several unique wines from Paul Cluver, Fairview, Dorrance Wines and Boekenhoutskloof, carefully chosen to complement indigenous ingredients and dishes that originate from the same regions as the wine estates are located

Myers-Adams explains that “terroir” is a French concept that refers to and describes how a particular region’s climate, soils and aspect (terrain) affect the taste of wine. Traditional winemaking and vineyard growing techniques can also contribute to a wine’s terroir.

“Through this wine and food pairing experience, we will explore different wines’ terroir with dishes from the same regions to highlight the indigenous flavours and characteristics they share. The ingredients for our menu are sourced or foraged from the same areas that the wines are produced, offering a rare opportunity for food explorers to sample flavours which are not otherwise readily available.

“For instance, we have conducted an urban forage for ingredients to compliment the city wine; with the Boekenhoutskloof wine we will be pairing Franschoek trout from the neighbouring farm and the accompanying ingredients are foraged from the property. These include honeybush, fern fiddleheads, Jerusalem artichokes, suurings, lemon blossoms and grand duchess.  The new Grenache from Fairview will be paired with organic free range lamb that is reared on the same farm.  At Paul Cluver in Elgin, we sourced four different types of apple to use for an incredible dessert,” enthuses Myers-Adams.

The wine estates participating in this beautifully orchestrated event are diverse in location and technique, producing a range of wines with distinguishing characters. The wine makers will join Myers-Adams for the beautifully orchestrated event to guide guests through the inspiring food and wine journey.

The event takes place on 20 October at The Table Bay’s The Atlantic at 18h30. The cost per adult is R450
