Joburg’s Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile

This industry is all about tradition, and in true style The Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile (Grade 2) will be hosted at Turffontein Racecourse on 3 November for an event that gives back in the best possible way. This unique race day sees fashionably dressed celebrities, charities and media partners join forces in what must be one of the most exciting events on the Highveld racing calendar and even more so on Joburg’s social calendar.  Let’s not forget that Emperors Palace is celebrating its 20th birthday this year so the festivities are about to get a whole lot better. The Palace of Dreams, Emperors Palace, has a multitude of activities lined up over the few weeks  until 13 December, from a colossal artificial birthday cake and golden treats at Aurelia’s restaurant, to a coffee table book and a remembrance walkway, so make sure you get to Emperors Palace to join in the birthday celebrations.

Peermont and Emperors Palace are known for creating exceptional memories and in true racing spirit, The Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile only gets better. The main race will see 16 chosen charities, along with 16 celebrities and media partners formally paired up with 16 horses that are due to “burn the turf” at Turffontein on the first Saturday of November. It’s all up to the athletes on race day to determine the split of the R1-million to the respective charities.

Turffontein Racecourse will also host the richest race for maidens, sponsored by Prince Albert II, the reigning monarch of Monaco, and several businessmen. Prince Albert II is no stranger to South Africa’s racetracks as his South African wife, Princess Charlene of Monaco is a frequent guest and major contributor to our glorious industry.  The inaugural twenty horse Monaco Million Maiden Sprint over 1160m will give owners of a horse that is yet to have had a win an opportunity to win R500, 000 with first prize, R175,000 for second, R100,000 for third and eventually the 10th placed runner will receive R10,000.

With an array of hospitality venues throughout the race course, including the spectacular City Deck, visitors can enjoy a variety of delicious meals while overlooking the parade ring and more importantly the action on the track.
