1) The Essentials Food Tour: 

R 995 per person. 

This tour focuses on a variety of different traditions and food cultures in Cape Town around the Bo-Kaap, De Waterkant, Greenpoint, and the V&A Waterfront.

Each stop is also an opportunity to learn about the history of the cultures involved; the food and locations always relate back to important aspects of Capetonian heritage, especially about how the different communities developed together.

We touch base on the VOC,  Slave Trade and Apartheid and how they both played a vital part in local cuisine as well as in the national consciousness of South African culture.

Tour start times and tour dates: 
  • 11:00 – 14:00 pm. (Guests to arrive 15 min prior to the tour please).          
Day’s available: 
  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Sundays are optional.                    
  • The operator must first contact CTCT to ensure available tour dates and tour space.
A minimum of two guests are required for a tour to start with a maximum of 10 guests per tour accepted. Private bookings for larger groups are also possible

Tour Duration and length: 

  • 3 hours spread over 2.5 km. The walk is a 3/5 in difficulty rated by our guests, there is some stairs on the tour.                                
  • This tour play’s off from the borders of the colourful Bo-Kaap, through the vibrant De Waterkant, Greenpoint and ends of in the historical V&A Waterfront.
You will stop at the following 6 restaurants:
  1. Origin Coffee for a coffee presentation or Rooibos Tea.
  2. Cafe Charle’s: Bobotie and Cape Malay introduction.
  3. Cafe Extrablatt: Craft Beer tasting/ pairing, German, French, Italian and Portages  history.
  4. The Butcherman: Biltong Tasting with a House Boerewors.
  5. Cause Effect: Fynbos/botanical alcoholic drink to start with. Malva Pudding pared with a Brandy.
  6. If Cause and Effect is not available we stop at Den Anker for a cheese and Jordan wine pairing.

The Cape Town Food and Drink Safari:

R 695 per person

This tour focuses on the contributions of different African and South Africa communities to Cape Town’s culture and cuisine.

By engaging with the food and people we will learn about their heritage and the circumstances that brought them to South Africa together. We touch base on the City Centre’s history regarding slavery and apartheid as we make our way through the CBD and end off in in CBD.

Tour start times and tour dates: 
  • 14:00 pm – 16:30 pm.

Day’s available: 

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Sundays are optional.

You will stop at the following restaurants:
  1. The Meeting Point restaurant: Tanzanian food, spice. Vegetable curry, beef stew, pap, coconut rice and beer
  2. The Cape Town Gin & Spirits Co for a Gin Tasting and explanation
  3. Madam Taitou: Ethiopian trade history, spice and seasonal food platter.
  4. Mariam’s Kitchen: Bunny chow/Gatsby.
  5. Mariam’s kitchen Milk tarts

The Cape Town Coffee Experience

R 495 per person.

You will stop at the following cafes & roasteries:
  1. Truth Coffee Roasters / Cleaver dripper Coffee presentation x2 tasting game paired with the cake of the day.
  2. Heaven Coffee Shop / Probably the only coffee shop worldwide located inside a 141-year-old Church. Green Market Street. / Chemex Coffee presentation in the church.
  3. Origin Coffee Roasting: To date, Origin has produced 5 South African Barista champions. Siphon Coffee presentation paired with 2 types of bagels.

Additional notes:

  • Masks must be worn all the time
  • Sanitiser will be provided along the tour
  • Hands Free Temperature scanner will be used to start the tour and record results
