Living Leaves Lettuce

Last week I received something somewhat strange in the mailbox – lettuce; roots and all! If they hadn’t had notified me, I would have thought that it might be a very strange prank. But it’s all part of Checker’s promises to make things better.  They are first to market in South Africa with a revolutionary concept – a living lettuce with roots intact that stays fresher for longer.

Hydroponically grown and then harvested with the roots still intact, Living Leaves Lettuce is alive and growing when purchased and stored in the consumer’s refrigerator, resulting in longer lasting, better flavoured leaves than those on regular lettuce heads.

As the lettuce continues to live, it lasts more than twice as long as regular lettuce. And if it continues to be kept in a cold environment, consumers will have the benefit of crisp, vitamin-packed fresh leaves for longer than ever possible before.

It’s the next best thing to having a garden in your fridge.
