With lock-down still in full effect, your favourite Asian restaurant may still be closed. But don’t fear because Chef Kuan is coming to the rescue.
Renowned for his culinary cooking skills at L’Orient in Sea Point, Kitima in Hout Bay and most recently at Macau in Cape Town, Chef Kuan has been delighting customers for more than 30 years with his many exciting creations from the kitchen.
With restaurants closing during lock-down, he’s had to think outside the box first offering cooking classes for eager hobby cooks and now also offering home deliveries of some of his most popular dishes that have made him famous in the first place.
A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of enjoying some of the dishes that he’s offering and I can’t be any more excited to showcase what’s on offer.
Dumplings & Ramen
The last restaurant meal I had before lock-down was actually dim sum, and man, have I missed these dumplings. With a good helping of soy sauce and some chop sticks in hand, it’s fun to enjoy these flavour bombs right at home. You can choose between pork or shitake mushroom dumplings.
The ramen was served with soy braised eggs ,spring onion and a delicious hearty miso. You can also choose your own toppings from soy braised pork belly, katsu chicken cheese melt, smoked tofu, black fungus & wakame to pimp your Ramen in the way you like.
Both were incredible and made me glad that we can still enjoy quality restaurant-quality dishes at home even if your favourite restaurant is currently still closed.
Absolutely delicious. This little bun is filled with soy braised pork belly along with an amazing Gochujang Mayo that packs a nice tangy punch. Every bite was a delight with spices that delight the senses. Amazing.
The star of the show. Build-Your-Own crispy roasted aromatic duck served with thin pancakes, spring onions, fresh cucumber, and a sweet and sticky side sauce. I always enjoy food being truly satisfying when it’s a combo of textures, temperatures, and flavours (sweet, spicy, salty, acidic, umami) and this dish hit every mark.
Each and every dish is brimming with the flavours I’ve missed for a long long time. I don’t cook with these kinds of herbs and spices much and to be honest I wouldn’t even know where to start. That’s why I’m so glad that Chef Kuan is making life easy with a great menu that’s excellent value for money with premium dishes on show that you have come to love at one of his restaurants.
