A First-Thursday Ritual: Food Jams Turns Dinner into a Full Experience at Makers Landing

At Makers Landing, dinner doesn’t follow the usual script. Instead, it turns into an experience; one where guests step into the kitchen, get involved, and leave with more than just a meal.

Wild at the Waterfront, the monthly supper club hosted in collaboration with Food Jams, brings a hands-on approach to dining every first Thursday of the month.

Running from 18:00 to 21:30, the evening blends cooking, socialising, and a bit of organised chaos in the best way.

  • Guests arrive, roll up their sleeves, and cook alongside a lively kitchen crew and fellow food lovers. Each session introduces a new themed menu, shaped by bold flavours, local ingredients, and a distinctly Cape Town perspective. There’s guidance throughout, but it never feels like a class—it’s more like cooking with friends who happen to know what they’re doing.

It’s social by design. Conversations start over chopping boards, continue over shared plates, and usually end with new connections. By the time the food hits the table, the group has already done half the bonding.

Upcoming dates include 7 May and 4 June, giving guests a clear window to plan ahead. And while the cooking is the main event, it’s the mix of people, energy, and shared effort that carries the night.

At Makers Landing, dinner becomes something participatory. Come for the cooking, stay for the people, and leave with a full table, a few new names in your phone, and the sense that a regular night out just got an upgrade.
