A Buffet Adventure at Bistro 31 where festive Flavours, Carvery Classics & Dessert Decisions become serious Business

Christmas lunch has a funny way of turning into an all-day event.

One minute it’s “just a festive meal,” and the next, the family is debating dessert choices, comparing roast potato rankings, and quietly planning second visits to the charcuterie table.

This year, Bistro 31 is fully embracing the festive spirit with a lavish Christmas Day Lunch Buffet packed with elegant comfort food, festive classics, and enough indulgence to keep everyone happily occupied well into the afternoon.

  • At R1145 per person, with children aged 5–11 dining at half price, it’s the kind of celebration designed for slow lunches, full plates, and zero washing up afterwards.

What’s on the Menu?

  • The experience begins at the beautifully curated Farmers Table, where guests can graze through smoked Overberg cheese, gorgonzola, aged camembert, preserves, grilled artichokes and asparagus, sourdough, focaccia, smoked truffle butter, olives, duck liver pâté, smoked snoek pâté, muhammara, and a generous Spanish charcuterie selection.
  • The festive energy continues at the Tapas Tables, serving everything from smoked hoisin beef brisket tacos and orange duck bao buns with sweet umami glaze to maple-glazed bacon, brie and date bites, brie and pistachio praline spring rolls, grilled calamari tubes with yuzu aioli, and asparagus, goat’s cheese and sun-dried tomato tartlets.
  • For guests wanting something lighter between festive rounds, the Salad Bar brings together roasted baby beets, grilled red peppers, honey-charred pear, rocket, feta, watermelon, walnuts, baby leaves, chevin, and maple-caramelised butternut.
  • Then comes the main attraction: the Carvery. Expect beef fillet medallions with gorgonzola, walnuts and balsamic onions, slow-roasted leg of lamb finished with pomegranate and molasses glaze, sticky bourbon and smoked pineapple glazed gammon, and black truffle chicken supremes, all served with sauces and classic accompaniments.
  • The hot selection delivers proper festive comfort with miso-buttered Napa cabbage topped with crispy onions, leek and cauliflower au gratin with Gruyère, maple-buttered pumpkin with cinnamon, Yorkshire puddings, and roast potatoes that are unlikely to survive the first round.
  • Dessert, naturally, refuses to be understated. Guests can end the afternoon with pear and tonka bean frangipanes, lemon semolina pistachio and matcha tiramisu, red velvet mascarpone and kirsch cherry trifles, peppermint crisp and caramel Yule logs, and chocolate Nemesis finished with Chantilly cream and dark chocolate shavings.

From elegant grazing stations to festive favourites with a Bistro 31 twist, this is Christmas lunch done properly: generous, celebratory, and just indulgent enough to make everyone loosen a belt buckle before dessert.
