Dinner & a cruise with Tobagos at the Radisson

I’ve said it before, many of us who live in Cape Town forget to appreciate the beauty and diversity of our city. We forget that we can do touristy things, too.

The Radisson Hotel has created a delicious, touristy dream in partnership with Tangent Charters, that us Rand-earners can afford. For just R495pp, enjoy a two hour cruise with champagne and snacks, followed by a high-end, but homely dinner at Tobago’s.

Springbok Carpaccio

The layers of unimaginably thin, dark red springbok, topped with fresh greens, creamy avocado, spring onions, peppery rocket, salty black olives, parmesan and shaved fennel, with a zesty orange vinaigrette. While I’m normally no fan of it, they used baby fennel and its delicate fragrance really added a whole different dimension to the dish. Each element stood out, while working together to make this as moreish as can be.

Tomato and Glazed Ginger Sorbet

Watching a few of the guests wrap their mind around a this savoury-sweet “ice cream”, was a laugh. But ultimately, consensus was that it was delicious!

Roast Chicken

This is what I mean by high-end homely. You don’t need to make fancy shmancy teaspoon-sized portions of god-knows-what on a plate to impress people. I for one am incredibly impressed when something as simple as roast chicken, can be made so deliciously. Incredibly tender and packed with the flavour of thyme and paprika, then on a bed of simple polenta, with crunchy veg, a tomato, onion and pepper Mediterranian salsa and the natural chicken jus. I could’ve eaten another portion or three.

Passion Fruit Crème Brûlée

Gently flavoured with passion fruit and topped with sesame seed brittle, it was a light way to end the meal. I’ve written before that I don’t like when chefs mess with the flavour of crème brûlée, so while this wasn’t my absolute favourite, that’s just personal taste. It was the perfect consistency, but could have done with a more of a sugar crust.

The Radisson offers so much to guests and visitors. Between the function venues, the cocktail bar, the beautiful food and view of Tobego’s, the spa and the list goes on… it’s somewhere I need to visit more.

PS: For you businessy folk, why not try a new kinda morning business meeting. 8am – 10am cruise with fingerfood breakfast, followed by  use of the Radission conference space. That’s the sort of meeting I’d be happy to wake up for.
