Few experiences in the Cape Winelands are quite as charming as the daily Duck Run at Vergenoegd Löw.
Twice each day, the estate’s famous flock of Indian Runner Ducks makes its way across the homestead grounds and towards the vineyards, creating a tradition that has become one of the estate’s most beloved attractions.
Far more than a novelty, these feathered vineyard helpers play an important role in the estate’s sustainable farming practices, naturally assisting with vineyard management while reflecting Vergenoegd Löw’s long-standing commitment to biodiversity and responsible farming.
- Guests can catch the Duck Run daily at 9am and 12pm, making it easy to build an entire Winelands outing around the experience.
Those arriving for the morning procession can settle in at Geuwels for the popular Duck Run Breakfast, served daily from 08:30 to 11:00. The breakfast includes a freshly toasted croissant filled with scrambled egg, melted cheese and bacon, accompanied by a cappuccino, while younger visitors can enjoy a child-friendly version with scrambled egg. More a la carte options are also available.
After the ducks have completed their morning march, visitors can linger a little longer with one of the estate’s wine tastings, explore the historic property, or enjoy a leisurely lunch overlooking the vineyards. The combination of award-winning wines, seasonal cuisine, beautiful surroundings and working farm traditions makes for a refreshingly different day in the Winelands.
Whether visiting with family, entertaining out-of-town guests, or simply looking for an excuse to spend a few unhurried hours in Stellenbosch, Vergenoegd Löw offers a uniquely South African experience where nature, heritage and hospitality come together in memorable fashion. For more information, visit the Vergenoegd Löw website and plan a day around one of the Cape Winelands’ most famous daily traditions.
