Top 9 Places to Eat Before and After the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon

The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon is on Sunday 18th of September!

If you’ve been following our Instagram account, you’ll have noticed that we’ve been highlighting some of our favourite spots along the Cape Town Sanlam Marathon route. Here they are, in no particular order… Drumroll pleaseeeee:

Our Favourite Restaurants along the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon Route

1. Tribe

If you’re looking for a good coffee spot make sure you check out Tribe Coffee. Located in the Woodstock Foundry, Tribe is great for breakfast or lunch, and obviously, coffee.

2. Tsogo Sun Cullinan Hotel

Second up, for some pre-race carbo-loading, try the restaurant at Tsogo Sun Cullinan. The creamy prawn and chilli linguine paired with a Fleur du Cap Chenin Blanc was incredible. Make sure to get there in the early evening to catch the sunset from the pool deck. If you’re in the mood to share, they also have a really nice tapas menu including salt and pepper squid, pork belly, and much more.

3. Newport Market And Deli

From rolls and bagels, to wraps, salads, hot and cold breakfasts, smoothies, juices, and a lot more – you can find almost every breakfast under the sun at Newport Market & Deli in Mouille Point. They focus on healthy, fresh foods so get there early for a great start to the day.

4. Fraiche Ayres

When you visit Fraiche Ayres, you’ll really feel like you’re in a forest. This warm and cosy café is nestled in a garden nursery in the Southern Suburbs, serving breakfast until 11:30 and lunch until 4:45. Pop in and enjoy their lovely service, some great food and maybe go home with some beautiful plants and herbs!

5. The Wild Fig

The Wild Fig is one of Cape Town’s best kept secrets. It’s tranquil, beautiful and serves excellent food. Whether you sit out in the gardens or cosy up by the fire, you’ll immediately fall in love with the family-feel of the place… and the delicious menu.

6. Giovanni’s

When you’re looking for savoury or sweet options, Giovanni’s in Green Point is the ultimate spot for a quick takeaway. Tomato, mozzarella, pesto and fresh basil, topped with artichokes – perfect in its simplicity. And you can’t go wrong with a fresh-out-the-oven croissant and a pasteis de nata.

7. Table 13

If you’re banting and you need a carb-substitute fix, head on over to Table 13 in Green Point. Their zoodles are top-notch and the cauliflower pizza really hits the spot. Remember to ask for some fresh chilli to really get the party going.

8. Fireman’s Arms

Fireman’s Arms is one of Cape Town’s favourite sports bars. They serve everything from chilli poppers and fish goujons to pizza, onion rings – there really is something for everyone here. And if deep-fried ain’t your thing, they have a range of salads, wraps, main meals and more.

9. The Village Idiot

So you’ve just finished a 42.2km marathon, it’s definitely time for drinks and dinner at The Village Idiot in Loop Street. Every Sunday from 12, a brewery or wine farm does tastings and a guest chef fires up the braai. There’s only one rule: arrive hungry.
