Smiths Gin is changing Lives with Hospitality Bursaries

Smiths Gin was founded on years of hospitality and alcohol industry experience by Rachel Smith, who has managed some of the biggest global high-end luxury spirit brands.

With seven years of experience under her belt, she decided to create her own spirits portfolio, of which Smiths Gin is the first.

The company also focuses on giving out bursaries on a bi-annual basis to grow the hospitality industry through the education growth driver, something Rachel decided to do after a brief stint in consulting.

When it was time to realize her vision of a bursary-funding and economy growing spirit company, Bursary Spirits was born. A share of the profits from every bottle of Smiths Gin sold goes towards up-skilling deserving individuals who would not otherwise have had the funding to further their studies.

Applications for bursaries will open every year between January to February and again in July to August with the awarding of the bursaries done in March and September.

To start, 10 bursaries will be available in March and applications for all types of hospitality linked courses will be considered. As the company grows and can, the number of bursaries available will also increase. Recipients will be selected from the pool of applications received and selected based on their requirements, motivation and history of involvement in the industry, and must be over the age of 18.

Get your bottle of Smiths Gin today and do your bit to further the hospitality industry in South Africa. Choose from three variants:

  • Spice South African Dry Craft Gin, which has an exciting masala-like flavour from nose to finish
  • Elderflower South African Dry Craft Gin, which distils a combination of elderflower and other floral notes.  The London Dry method is used for both in order to establish the distinct juniper-forward gin flavour.
  • The Citrus South African Dry Craft Gin uses fresh sprigs of orange, grapefruit and lemon and a strong juniper flavour.
