My Christmas Wishlist

I’ve been a frequent shopper at TAKEALOT.com for several years – getting my monthly fix of books, games and movies.. Over the past few months, they’ve also been slowly adding more categories and products to the site including Beauty, Baby & Toddler, Sports gear and a new category: Home and Kitchen.

Takealot – Safe & Secure Online Shopping

To say that I am brand loyal to Takealot is a bit of an understatement. I could talk about price and variety, but that is not the reason I love them so much. Impatience might be my biggest character flaw, but if I want to read a book, I want to read it now. I don’t mind going to a store and pay a few extra bucks more to get it instantly – for me, speed wins! And as it happens, Takealot are pretty good at speed. The fact that they’re also a lot cheaper, is just an added bonus.

Many items are already in stock in their Cape Town and Johannesburg warehouses. Only a few minutes after your shopping cart has been processed, you’ll get a notification in your inbox saying that your order is ready for collection. If you spend more than R250, they throw in free delivery, but I normally just drive to the warehouse near Century City and collect it myself. Even if the products I want aren’t in stock, I’ve never had to wait long for them to arrive.

The Home and Kitchen category boasts brands such as Bosch, LG, KichtenAid, Kenwood, Russell Hobbs and many more. In total there are SIXTY to choose from, ranging from exclusive designer brands to normal household names. You can also browse items by categories such as food preparation, cooking appliances, coffee and expresso, and toasters and sandwich makers. There are 1,335 items, sorted by brand name or category, while further filters such as price, ratings and availability can be added, making your shopping experience as easy as possible.

You can also keep your utensils and appliances consistent with the design and style of your kitchen, because many of the products are available in several colours – The Kitchen Aid stand mixer is available in 16 colours and kMix Espresso Maker in 8. This is true across most brands and products listed on the Takealot site.

My Top 5 Wish List Items

As it’s Christmas fairly soon (only 57 days to go) and my birthday is coming up as well, I created a Wish List:

Sunbeam Chocolate Fountain

The last time I experienced the magic of a chocolate fountain was at the Pinotage on Tap Festival on the Diemersfontein Wine Estate. People were somewhat drunk and adding a chocolate fountain into the mix resulted in mayhem. The idea of my own chocolate fountain at home sounds much more tranquil. P.S. If there are any “Dine with Me SA” contestants out there, buy this and you’ll win!

24-Cup Mini Muffin Tin

Who doesn’t like mini muffins? They’re perfect for snacks, as there is no waste, and the sheer cute-factor is always a hit. A handy tip when making mini muffins is to use an icing-bag instead of a spoon to fill the tray with the batter – keeping everything nice and clean.

Salton Popcorn Maker

Popcorn is the perfect snack for movies. It’s just a shame that tickets for movies are getting so expensive and prices for snacks are even more ridiculous. These days with our faster Internet and streaming websites you can get the latest movies right at home. But you still need popcorn. As there are significant health issues with microwave popcorn, a Salton Popcorn Maker (R189) is the perfect solution.

The Mellarware Biltong Maker

This is a seriously cool Christmas present. I’m thinking about getting it for my dad! He loves biltong and he’ll love it even more when he can make his own with the Biltong King Biltong Maker from Mellerware (R389). The Mellarware website has some recipes to try out, but knowing my dad, he’ll find the perfect recipe by trial-and-error and use the family as guinea pigs.

Sunbeam – Designer Waffle Maker

I loved making waffles with my mom when I was younger. Whether they were plain, with ice cream, with whipped cream, or with bananas and strawberries in summer – any combination works perfectly. But my favourite is: waffles topped with vanilla ice cream and hot cherries. Ah-maze-ing!

These are just a few of the products available from the new Takealot Kitchen and Home – but you MUST have a look at the rest. To celebrate the new category, they are giving away a R 1,000 Wilthire Baking Hamper and all you have to do to enter is sign up to their newsletter. It’s that easy!

Happy Shopping!
