L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate

The L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate, as much a celebration of local fashion and style as it is a showcase of the Cape’s equestrian excellence, will see internationally accomplished fashion designers Errol Arendz, Sian Parry Jones and Craig Port determine the Best Dressed Lady, who will be jetted off to the United Kingdom for Glorious Goodwood 2015.

This one-of-a-kind prize is part of the exchange agreement which will see Charlie Elmy-Britton, winner of Best Dressed Lady at England’s Glorious Goodwood 2014, attending LQP 2015 as a part of her title.

I am really excited to visit South Africa to experience the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate in January. The event is internationally renowned for its elegant ensembles, so I cannot wait to see the best of South African fashion – Charlie, whose winning look at Glorious Goodwood comprised a classic blue lace dress, matching fascinator and chic Chanel clutch.

Taking the tradition of selecting the day’s “Best Dressed” attendees to the next level, the judges and prizes for LQP 2015 are of an incredible international caliber. The style experts to determine the upcoming Best Dressed Lady, Best Dressed Man and Best Hat are:  South African couturier to the stars, Errol Arendz; British interior designer and style consultant, Sian Parry Jones; and Cape Town designer and runway-favourite, Craig Port.

“The L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate is an occasion to celebrate the grace and refinement which has historically accompanied world-class race days, and the winning outfits will be a reflection of that history. We are looking for classic sophistication, with a twist, at LQP 2015. We predict that subtle floral and paisley prints in feminine, tailored shapes will feature strongly for ladies, while smart-casual continental suits, chinos and Panama hats will be popular with gentlemen,” says Errol Arendz, esteemed judge at LQP 2015.

The lady to take Best Hat honours (won in 2014 by fashion blogger Kim Gray) will claim a prize of R2 000 from The Little Hattery along with a hamper filled with Uber vouchers, a fragrance and L’Ormarins MCC wine.  Similarly, the Best Dressed Man will be awarded with a fashion voucher to the value of R3 000 and a hamper with Uber vouchers, a fragrance and the revered L’Ormarins MCC wine.

*Note: Only ladies wearing hats or fascinators will be eligible for the Best Dressed Lady title.
