Kunjani Wines Gets a New Look!

There’s nothing like a makeover to spice things up a bit.

At Kunjani near Cape Town they are all about greeting guests with a warm welcome, and the hands on the label represent a greeting between friends.

Kunjani means ‘Hi, how are you?’ and that is exactly how friendships start,” says Pia Watermeyer, Kunjani’s co-owner.

Kunjani Wines in Stellenbosch is as colourful as it is diverse. The warm, vibrant colours will immediately capture your attentions and invite you in – they were counted in the “Top 19 Best Vineyard Designs Around the World” after all! Their name symbolises camaraderie and friendship, a warm ‘how are you?’ and you feel like they really want to know the answer!

Pia opened the doors in November 2017, together with business partner, Paul Bath and winemaker, Carmen Stevens – who, after graduating from Elsenberg Agricultural College in 1995 and becoming the first black winemaker in South Africa – and became a firm favourite in the wine-lover community, but also the weary traveller who gets to rest in one of their luxury accommodations – four private, self-catering villas with stunning views.

We are very meticulous about where and from whom we buy grapes. Quality is of utmost importance as we strive to always put the best in every bottle of Kunjani wine. – Carmen.

And with various awards under her belt, she knows what she’s talking about. Kunjani has only 2½ hectares under vine, all shiraz, while Carmen also has access to nearby cabernet sauvignon and merlot vineyards. The estate’s Riesling is imported from Germany’s Rheingau region.

Of course, their wine is perfectly paired with the delicious food in their restaurant, created under brilliant head chef, Lamek Mnisi. They use only the best quality ingredients and innovations in creating and presenting their food – healthy and wholesome. They only source fish from the green list of South African Sustainable Seafood Initiative (SASSI).

Kunjani is now getting a makeover! To match their eccentric tastes and sights, Kunjani is updating their wine labels to reflect their true character. Well-known designer studio Haumann Smal is assisting in this endeavour. Think sophisticated, timeless and contemporary, glossy charcoal colouring and fist bumps. We can’t wait to see how they turn out!

We believe wine is a universal language. Nothing builds a relationship, and keeps friendships going, like sharing a bottle of fine wine and excellent food. And we offer both here at Kunjani. – explains Pia
