Getting cheesy, chocolatey, and fruity with Hirsch’s Homestore.

Over the last two weeks, we’ve had the joy of partnering with Hirsch’s Homestore to trial a few of their products. They challenged us to showcase what their LG Microwave, Bosch Juicer and Russel Hobbs Slow Cooker were all about.

Oozy, boozy choc-banana koek in the LG NeoChef microwave.

The 25l LG NeoChef Microwave is a sexy beast. Its shell is compact, with a big interior, which means it’s taking up less space on my table top, but is the same size that I’m used to. LG’s Smart Inverter technology offers very precise cooking, so you can cook, grill, reheat and defrost really quickly.

We were challenged to make a quick mug cake. I had done a similar thang before, so I knew it would turn out a treat. In my old micro this used to take 3 minutes, but this was done in 1min 15, which is super fast. It was also really consistently cooked all the way through, whereas in that old micro, the base could be a bit raw. If this was a taxi service, I’d give it 5 stars 😉

  • 1 small mashed banana
  • 3 tbsp cocoa
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 4 tbsp self-raising flour
  • 3 tbsp milk (or milk replacement)
  • a splash of whisky (optional)

Mix all the ingredients together and cook!

Fresh and fruit Purple Juice in the Bosch Juicer

I’m not a huge juice fan, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t be impressed by how nifty this machine is. Within a minute, I’d gone from chopped up veggies and fruit, to a perfectly clear fruit juice. There’s this really clever contraption that fits into the machine to separate out the foam if it ain’t your thang and the pulp is left finely broken down, but don’t throw it away, It can be used in so many different ways to add to your overall health and wellness.

  • 1 apple, cored
  • 1 pear, cored
  • Half a pineapple
  • 1 beetroot, peeled
  • A thumb of ginger

Cut ‘em up, peel and core where necessary, and throw them in.

Cheesy, creamy, dreamy Mac ‘n Cheese in the Russel Hobbs Slow Cooker

So I’ve read that cheese affects the same part of your brain as drugs, which makes complete sense 😉 So when we were challenged to make something interesting in our new Russel Hobbs Slow Cooker, the cravings kicked in and a good ol’ Mac n Cheese was the only way to go.

I literally threw all the ingredients into the machine, popped on the lid, and switched it on high for 3 hours. Presto: 2 hours and 20min later, I had a cheesy, oozy, unbelievably creamy mac ‘n cheese. I can’t wait to prep a ‘lil somethin’ somethin’ before going to work in the morning and coming home to a delicious meal. If you put the cooker on low, it can keep going for up to 9 hours! You can make almost anything in a slow cooker and there are so many amazing recipes online to try.

  • 500g macaroni pasta
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 can unsweetened evaporated milk
  • 250g cheddar cheese
  • 1 tub smooth cream cheese
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Throw ‘em in and cook!
