Popular Cape Town restaurant group, Bootlegger Coffee Company, have just announced that their Three Anchor Bay store is now fully Halaal certified, through the Islamic Council of South Africa (ICSA).
To celebrate, the branch will launch an exciting new milkshake menu available only at this store, where you will also be able to try all the items available on Bootlegger’s new summer menu. Some of these include the No Frills burger for those who find comfort in simplicity, a fresh new sesame chicken & pak choi salad or a hearty lamb meat ball hot press sandwich if you’re looking for something a little more adventurous.
Their loved-by-everyone breakfast menu also has a few new items to entice regulars while still maintaining the crowd favorites, such as the benedict and buttermilk flapjacks. Avo & Hummus toast, a breakfast wrap or a Bootlegger Omelette with goats cheese, baby spinach and cherry tomato will greet you with a light “New!” sign next to it, as you open the menu.
Over the past few years, Bootlegger has disrupted the Mother City’s coffee culture, with its freshly roasted beans and highly skilled barristas who pour cups of happiness, in the hundreds, every morning during their 6:30 – 8:30am R18 coffee special. But their credibility comes from far more than just the coffee. Apart from the dark grey walls, brass light fittings and vintage inspired décor that puts Bootlegger on the top of anyone’s list of trendy and Instagrammable spots, it’s the attention to detail that truly set them apart.

The specialised milkshake menu, which will only be available at the Three Anchor Bay store includes new mouth-watering flavours such as Toasted Banana Bread, Peanut Butter Brownie and a Marshmallow-Turkish Delight.
In the past 2 years, Halaal tourism & hospitality have become huge talking points both globally and locally, with the City of Cape Town working tirelessly to re-position the Western Cape as a specialist tourist destination for Islamic followers. Not only does Cape Town have the largest Muslim community in the country, but Muslim tourists are said to wield some of the biggest spending power globally, within the next 15 years.
However, co-Founder and Director of Bootlegger Coffee Company, Pieter Bloem says it’s more than just the market which influenced their decision to open a Halaal store.
We want to make Bootlegger accessible to anyone who wants to try it. It’s just such a lekker brand and we want to share it with everybody. – says Pieter.
