Seven Courses, Three Wines and a Whole Lot of Talent at 1000 Hills Chef School

If there’s ever been a reason to take a scenic drive into the Valley of a Thousand Hills, the Autumn Gourmet Evening at 1000 Hills Chef School might just be it.

On 27 March, the school’s talented culinary students step out of the classroom and into the spotlight, hosting a seven-course gourmet dining experience that showcases the skills, techniques and creativity they’ve spent months mastering.

This is more than just dinner — it’s a chance to watch future chefs in action, translating their training into a refined dining experience that balances flavour, texture and presentation.

A Seven-Course Autumn Menu

The evening’s wine & dine menu celebrates seasonal ingredients and thoughtful flavour combinations, guiding guests through a carefully crafted culinary journey.

Highlights from the Autumn menu include:

  • Butternut with flavours of Asia
  • Spicy carrot mousse
  • Crispy chicken breast
  • Red miso braised pork belly
  • Beef fillet steak
  • Brie cheese
  • Tiramisu

Each course reflects the students’ developing expertise, from delicate starters to rich mains and a satisfying sweet finish.

Thoughtful Wine Pairings

A great meal deserves great wine, and the evening includes carefully selected pairings from Gabriëlskloof.

  • 1st & 2nd courses: paired with Gabriëlskloof Chenin Blanc
  • 3rd & 4th courses: paired with Gabriëlskloof Rosebud
  • 5th course: paired with Gabriëlskloof The Blend

The pairings enhance each course, highlighting flavours while adding another layer of enjoyment to the experience.

Dining with the Next Generation of Chefs

What makes the evening particularly special is that the entire experience is run by the students themselves — from preparation and plating to service and presentation.

It’s an opportunity to enjoy restaurant-quality dining while supporting the next generation of culinary talent as they refine their craft.
