Culture Pop-Up to open its doors at Grub & Vine Norval

Culture Wine Bar, Matt Manning’s award-winning wine bar establishment, will host a pop-up bar at Grub & Vine Norval restaurant (located at the Norval Foundation in Constantia’s beatific wine valley) over the Cape Town summer months, up until the end of April 2024.

With a fully equipped bar, deep burgundy walls, ambient lounge area, and tables along the balcony, Culture Pop-Up is situated above Grub & Vine on the mezzanine, alongside one of the Norval Foundation’s galleries and featuring spectacular views of the famous Sculpture Garden.

“Over the past few years, the Southern Suburbs has become my home. While it has a lot to offer, there is a shortage of places to go for a good glass of wine, meaning that we must head into the city or open a bottle at home, says Manning.

  • “As we have done with Culture at the TimeOut Market Cape Town, we wanted to bring those in the area a taste of what our flagship Culture Wine Bar on Bree Street offers over the rest of summer, both in terms of the diversity and quality of our wine list.”

With a 200-reference strong wine list that features South Africa’s top producers, Culture Pop-Up will showcase the country’s diverse terroir, with an emphasis on Constantia-based producers. “Constantia is the oldest wine-producing region of SA, offering some of the best cool-climate Sauvignon Blanc and Bordeaux blends in the country. We want to champion our neighbours while offering the best from the various wine regions around the country.”

As with Culture on Bree Street, Culture Pop-Up will also offer a selection of some of the finest international wines. “From Burgundy to Beaujolais; and from Tasmanian bubbles to Tinta Barocca; we will continue to offer SA wines alongside the world’s best, demonstrating just how well they measure up.”

Manning adds that Culture Pop-Up will also offer live music on occasion, as well as a small plates menu for guests to snack on. Bar-goers can dine from Grub & Vine Norval’s full restaurant menu, should they wish. “As we have seen with our establishment on Bree Street, the marriage of a restaurant alongside a wine bar works well – guests can enjoy a glass of bubbles pre-dinner or a nightcap after dining in the bar. It also acts as a more casual offering for diners who want a light bite to eat.

“We encourage all walk-ins; guests to the museum, groups looking for a lively, elegant ambience, and those who simply want a good glass of wine after work.”

Culture Pop-Up will open 31 January until 30 April. For bookings, please contact https://grubandvine.co.za/norval/. Walk-ins welcome.
