This award goes to the best of the best cellar-door restaurants in the Cape Winelands – those gastronomic destinations with signature chefs who create cuisine on the cutting edge to attract domestic and foreign wine tourists. The organisers of the Klink Awards were looking for restaurants which pay great attention to detail in terms of an overall cellar-door experience, have a great location, first class service, a focus on artisanal and local Winelands produce, seasonal menus, tasting menus which expertly pair food and wine, a sommelier service and a wine list which showcases older vintages, own wines and/or regional wines at the cellar door.
The Restaurant at Waterkloof
Waterkloof Restaurant is where sophisticated contemporary classics marry elegant wines with a sustainable approach, for an elevated food and wine experience. Chef Czarnecki draws inspiration from the cellar’s stupendous hilltop location. A 10-metre high glass promontory looks out over swathes of vines and fynbos towards the sea, the restaurant area flowing seamlessly from the slick wine-tasting lounge and gravitational cellar.. Here both architecture and food are art, calling for unhurried appreciation of classical cuisine cooked in an eco-conscious style with a whimsical edge – complemented by seamless service.
