Nederburg’s Dinner of Discovery enters new Territory with Uncharted

Nederburg is inviting wine lovers to venture beyond the expected with the launch of Nederburg Uncharted, an immersive new sensory experience that will debut as part of the 2026 edition of its acclaimed Dinner of Discovery series.

Building on the success of Dinner of Discovery, Nederburg Uncharted takes the concept into new territory, combining wine, sound, touch, scent and food to create a multi-sensory journey through some of South Africa’s most evocative landscapes – all without leaving Nederburg’s historic home in Paarl.

For the inaugural experience, guests will be taken on a journey through three distinct landscapes, each interpreted through a Nederburg wine.

  • The evening begins with a curated soundscape and handwashing ritual, accompanied by Cap Classique and canapés. Guests will then be seated for the Uncharted experience, where they will be blindfolded and immersed in specially created soundscapes through individual headsets.

Developed in collaboration with a sound engineer, each soundscape has been designed to evoke the character and atmosphere of its corresponding landscape and wine. The experience is further enhanced by tactile and physical elements: guests may hold a cool, smooth pebble while exploring the West Coast, for example, while vials containing tangible expressions of the wine – such as sea salt and a lime wedge – invite them to engage their other senses.

With sight temporarily removed, the familiar act of wine tasting becomes an exercise in imagination, memory and sensory discovery. Guests are encouraged to experience a landscape through sound, touch and aroma before the wine itself is revealed.

The journey then continues, with guests moving to the dining room for a three-course dinner inspired by the landscapes and sensory impressions encountered during the Uncharted experience.

“Nederburg has always believed that wine is about more than what is in the glass – it is about the stories, places and people that give it meaning,” says general manager, Kate Jackson. “With Uncharted, we wanted to take that philosophy a step further and create an experience that allows guests to connect with wine in a completely different way. It is an invitation to slow down, tune into your senses and let your imagination travel.”

The first four Nederburg Uncharted experiences will take place on 11 and 12 September, and 9 and 10 October 2026, with tickets priced at R795 per person and available through Howler.

The launch of Uncharted marks the next chapter in Nederburg’s Dinner of Discovery journey, but the experience is designed to extend beyond these special events. Following its debut, Nederburg plans to develop Uncharted into an ongoing consumer experience, available to pre-booked groups at designated times and days, subject to a minimum number of guests.

In doing so, Nederburg is creating another reason to visit its Paarl home, and offering a new way to experience the connection between wine, place and imagination.
