At Rick’s Cafe Americain, lunch is not an afterthought. It is a rotating line-up of daily specials that keeps things interesting without making you think too hard about it.
Most dishes sit at R125, available from 12:00 to 15:00, with each day bringing something different to the table.
A Different Reason to Go Back Each Day:
Monday
Mondays at Rick’s Café Americain are all about doubling up. The restaurant’s 2-for-1 Burger Special runs all day long, giving guests the perfect excuse to settle in with a burger and bring along a friend with an appetite. It is a relaxed and easy-going way to start the week, whether for a casual lunch, after-work bite or laid-back dinner.
Tuesday
Tuesday brings bold flavours and a little extra indulgence. Lunch features Chermoula Chicken Kebabs served with onions, peppers, dukkah and yoghurt, chickpea tomato salsa and couscous. The evening shifts into Steak Night, where every steak comes with a complimentary 250ml carafe of Haute Cabriere Pinot Noir and Rick’s famous Madagascar Green Pepper Sauce. It is the kind of midweek pairing designed for lingering over good food and good wine.
Wednesday
Wednesday’s lunch special is a comforting Chicken à la King served with sauté peas and basmati rice. Alongside the meal special, Rick’s keeps the atmosphere lively with an all-day Margarita Special offering two Margaritas made with El Jimador Tequila for R100. It is equal parts comfort food and cocktail hour energy.
Thursday
Thursday’s special leans into hearty comfort with slow roasted pork neck served with Asian basting, corn and bean curry, and mash. Rich flavours and slow-cooked texture make it the kind of dish built for cooler afternoons and long lunches.
Friday
Fridays bring a Mediterranean-inspired seafood option with Harissa Spiced Baked Fish. Served on tomatoes and olives with ratatouille and couscous, the dish balances warmth, spice and freshness. The evening atmosphere continues with live jazz at Rick’s Bar from 19h30 to 22h30, adding live music to the start of the weekend.
Saturday
Saturday keeps the seafood focus going with Moroccan Spiced Fish Cakes served on couscous with chickpea tomato salsa and mint yoghurt. The flavours are vibrant, fresh and packed with spice, making it an easy weekend favourite. Live jazz continues in the evening from 19h30 to 22h30 at Rick’s Bar.
Sunday
Sundays are reserved for a classic roast experience. The Slow Roasted Leg of Lamb, rubbed with Moroccan spices and served with roast potatoes, vegetables and port jus, takes centre stage for R185. It is a traditional Sunday roast with Rick’s signature flavour twist, ideal for long lunches and relaxed afternoons.
There is also a bit happening around it. Happy hour runs daily from 15:00 to 18:00 and again late evening from 22:00, and weekends bring live jazz at Rick’s Bar, which can easily turn a quick lunch into a longer stay. Good portions, reliable flavours, and a different reason to show up each day. Pick your day, or work through the week. Either way, lunch is sorted.
