Winter Series Leg Two at Kenilworth Race Course

The second leg of the highly competitive Winter Series beckons on the 31st May 2014 at Kenilworth with the running of the Mbokodo Awards Winter Classic (Grade 3) over 1800m and the Stormsvlei Mile (Listed) for fillies.

A convincing victory of the First Leg, Power King trained by Dean Kannemeyer (Khaya Stables) is now a step closer to the R250 000 bonus for sweeping all three legs, whilst Acrostar (AUS) trained by Justin Snaith for Mrs S Plattner  is targeting a lucrative R150 000  Fillies bonus for a similarly rare achievement.

Based on a win in the Winter Guineas and a likely preference for this added test of stamina in rain-softened ground, the classy Power King must have a realistic chance of following up. But only that great legend of the turf, Pocket Power, has completed the Series hat-trick, indicating the difficulty of the quest.

Longshot, Acrostar came with a withering rails run from the back of the field for her opening leg success in a blanket finish, and will again face a wide spread of vengeful rivals in the fillies version.

At the conclusion of racing, horseplayers are welcome to gather in the Pocket Power Room from 17h00-19h00 for karaoke fun, happy hour and complimentary snacks. Straight afterwards, sport-fans can follow Big Screen Super Rugby action live –  as the Stormers take on the marauding Sharks in a match that kicks off at 19h00.
