Win incredible Prizes of up to R20,000 with the V&A Waterfront

It’s summertime, it’s the festive season and it’s also the V&A Waterfront’s 31st birthday!

In the spirit of the occasion, the Waterfront is offering 31 days packed full of fun experiences and prizes for visitors of all ages this December.

The festive season began with the return of the multi-award winning Joy from Africa to the World, the Waterfront’s Festive Season showcase of the best of the country’s craft and design talent and environmental sustainability. The showcase features intricately woven baskets to a series of 8 giant totems created by artists and crafters from local communities across the country, all using sustainably-sourced or recycled materials.

The Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre also hosts the first of its kind and largest exhibition of 100 Beautiful Baskets. The collection, the result of crafters and makers from all corners of the African continent, tells a uniquely African story that’s joyful and inspiring. It is a celebration of the ingenuity of weaving and the art of basketry will honouring the people behind this tradition.

A Palace fit for the little ones

Young visitors will encounter a kaleidoscope of colourful characters in a special Summer Palace inside the Victoria Wharf shopping centre’s Centre Court including Mother Earth, her trusted Aziza fairies, and the roaming Lion Guards. They can even expect a visit from Santa and his trusted Elf, Gimbel who will be available for pictures. Entertainment will be provided by African hymns, marimbas, and face painting. Regular children’s activities include the Hamley’s Train, the Kids Ahoy outdoors playground and fun boat trips. The more energetic can enjoy skateboarding, stand-up paddling, and rollerblading, all in one special space at our Battery Park.

Food

In addition to 80 eateries across the property, for truly South African flair and flavour visitors can visit the popular Makers Landing food hub which turns one this December. Another brand-new attraction is the Cabo Beach Club with its unique setting on the water’s edge, and the newly opened Pier & Waterside restaurant. Grab your coffee at the new Bootleggers Coffee Kiosk or Seattle. Healthy diners will love Rootbar, ice-cream indulgence awaits at The Creamery, and gourmet burgers are all the rage at Royal Burgers. Kids’ classes can be arranged at Makers Landing and the Lindt Chocolate Studio.

Fashion

Over 450 retailers already make the Waterfront a fun place to shop. Exciting new stores to explore include the flagship new Adidas store which is described as the most sustainable retail store in Africa, and the debut of the new concept Zara store which fills two floors and offers a new Zara Woman’s shoe boutique. The V&A Watershed will also host a special festive market where you can buy amazing locally made gifts and meet some of the best of Cape Town’s designers.

Outside Alfred Mall, visitors can strut their fashion stuff on the vibrant and Instagram-worthy Summer ramp. By posing, clicking, and posting their photo on social media they could stand a chance to win weekly spot prizes compliments of some of the amazing tenants in the neighbourhood. All they have to do is tag the V&A Waterfront (add image of the ramp activity) and use #VandASummer.

Attractions

The Waterfront has also commissioned Watershed tenant, Davis Ndungu of Recycled Flip Flop Sculptures to create a large pair of angel wings as a permanent installation. Visitors can also post photos with the wings and tag the V&A Waterfront and they could be in line to win great prizes. To continue the spirit of surprising and delighting visitors, the V&A will also have their Summer Scouts on the property. The Summer Scouts are ready to reward visitors with giveaways just for choosing to visit the neighbourhood and create their summer memories. (add image). The fun doesn’t stop there, visitors can enjoy a leisurely cruise to soak up the sun, hop on a City Sightseeing Redbus, stopover at the OZCFM Market for a quick bite and thirst-quenching drink to cool down.

A beam of Hope to usher in 2022

This year, the V&A Waterfront will again light the way for the beginning of the New Year with a bright beam of light that is visible across the peninsula.  Cape Town Electric Violin and DJ collaboration, DeVille will lead the celebration with a performance 10 minutes before midnight ahead of the New Year countdown. For the next six nights, the beam will be lit from 21h00 giving people multiple chances to see it. V&A Waterfront restaurants celebrating New Year’s Eve events will host their own New Year’s Eve special events in line with Covid-19 regulations. (add image)
