Sunday lunch at Gusto Urban Italian is less about formality and more about settling in, loosening up, and eating really well.
Set in a relaxed courtyard-style space, Gusto leans into that easy Italian way of dining where the table fills up quickly and no one is in a hurry to leave.
On the last Sunday of every month, from 12:00 to 15:00, guests are invited to a generous Italian roast buffet designed for sharing, sampling, and going back for seconds.
- It starts, as it should, with antipasti. There’s a spread of artisan cheeses including mozzarella, gorgonzola and brie, alongside marinated bocconcini, olives, roasted peppers, and freshly baked breads and focaccia. A trio of dips, creamy ricotta with honey, and a selection of cured meats set the tone early. For something a little more indulgent, mussels steamed in pinot grigio and a Tuscan-style panzanella salad add both depth and freshness.
- From there, the mains keep things hearty but balanced. A creamy mushroom and sage risotto sits alongside baked pasta layered with spinach, ricotta and pomodoro. The centrepieces are classic Sunday roasts done the Italian way: Tuscan-style leg of lamb with fennel and garlic, and pollo alla cacciatora with tomato, onions and peppers. Roast vegetables and baby potatoes with parmesan round everything out without trying too hard.
- Dessert is simple and satisfying. Think tiramisu, cheesecake of the day, lemon ciambella, and chocolate velvet cake bites. Enough variety to try a bit of everything, without overcomplicating the finish.
At R425 per person, with kids under 12 at half price, it’s a offering that works just as well for families as it does for long, social lunches with friends. Good food, plenty of choice, and time to enjoy it. At Gusto, Sunday lunch isn’t rushed. It’s something to settle into.
