August is looking very good for wine lovers — and even better for those who love their vino with a side of storytelling, soul, and seriously good food.
This month, Verdicchio Restaurant & Wine Cellar is hosting not one, not two, but five wine pairing evenings that promise to take your palate on a road trip through the Cape winelands — no passport needed.
Each evening is curated with a unique menu and perfectly paired wines, presented by the people who know them best: the winemakers themselves. Think bold reds, elegant whites, and tales of terroir that make every sip even richer.
🍇 Here’s What’s Pouring:
- 7 August – Strandveld Vineyards: Windswept and wild, these cool-climate Elim wines are shaped by the ocean and steeped in adventure. Expect mineral notes, crisp edges, and a touch of maritime swagger.
- 13 August – Backsberg Family Wines: One of South Africa’s oldest family-owned wineries brings 100+ years of heart, heritage, and hospitality. Six wines, five delicious courses — this is a feast with a legacy.
- 20 August – Zonnebloem Wines: Craftsmanship dating back to the 1600s? Yes please. Zonnebloem brings timeless Stellenbosch elegance to your glass. Classic. Confident. Unmissable.
- 21 August – Stellenbosch Reserve: Vibrant and full of personality, these wines tell the story of a family farm turned legacy brand. Think soul, structure, and a very satisfying swirl.
- 28 August – Paul Clüver Wines: Elgin’s cool-climate royalty. With winemaker Andries Burger in the house, expect elegance, depth, and a masterclass in balance. A grand finale for the series.
