A week of spirits, full moons and… cocktails at EB Social Kitchen & Bar

You may be familiar with Halloween and its pumpkins, witches, wizards, tricks and treats, but did you know that just a few days later, Mexicans will close up shop and celebrate their annual festival, El Dia de Los Muertos – aka, Day of the Dead?

Between October 31st and November 2nd each year, Mexicans come alive to celebrate the lives of their lost loved ones. It is not a gloomy or morbid affair, but a festive holiday, commemorating the lives of those who have passed on.

This year you can celebrate with the team at Social Kitchen & Bar in Hyde Park. They have a series of book-inspired cocktails and one of them is Halloween’s lesser known cousin, Day of the Dead, based on the classic novel by Antoni Cadafalch.

A pale mix of Don Julio Reposado, smoked IPA and lime, this deadly cocktail has two sides – the one we love and the one we fear. Day of the Dead was thus designed to be shared in the presence of loved ones and in celebration of loved ones – those gone and those still with us.

So, if you are looking for a fun, night out with family and friends to toast to those lost and those still around, come and try Social Kitchen & Bar’s Day of the Dead or some of the other incredible book-inspired cocktails on the menu.

Not only is it Johannesburg’s best restaurant to share conversations and hand-crafted food, but it completes the epicurean adventure with simple food, inspired cocktails and a view fit for a King.

Social Kitchen & Bar can be found in the heart of Hyde Park Corner – level six, inside the Exclusive Books store. For reservations call them on 011 268 6039.
