The Wodka Restaurant dishes up a delicious Teppanyaki exhibition

Wednesday night saw the trendy Wodka Restaurant at The Waterfront Hotel and Spa buzzing with esteemed guests and some of the most respected food critics and bloggers the Durban culinary scene has to offer, all of which had gathered for one thing – a taste of Teppanyaki.

The evening opened with a warm welcome from the General Manager of The Waterfront Hotel and Spa, Rodney Bull. A passionate introduction ensued as Bull stated, “Teppanyaki is not merely cooking, it is so much more. It’s as much theatre as it is a culinary exhibition. It is a performance, an art and a display of precision and skill”.

Afterwards, the guests were given a brief history of the Japanese cuisine and encouraged to approach the hotplate to watch Teppanyaki chef, Philani Hlela, prepare their meal. With over 5 years’ experience as a professional Teppanyaki chef, Philani was very accommodating and he chatted friendlily with the guests as he sliced and diced his way to a number of mouth-watering lamb, chick, beef, pork and prawn dishes.

The hotel management was ecstatic with the turnout. They are hopeful that the success of the event will only serve to bolster the reservations in the Wodka Restaurant as the Teppanyaki station continues to grow in popularity.

P.S.: They are hosting an incredible half-price Teppanyaki special at the moment where you can also win a dinner for SIX!
