On Thursday the 24th April, Bamboo welcomed over 100 of Durban’s top businessmen, journalists and a couple famous faces to the Re-Launch party of their Umhlanga store. The night was a huge success filled with great people, great sushi and lots of great wine.

Bamboo Sushi Lounge in Umhlanga Village, recently opened its doors again to eager diners after being closed due to renovations for the month of March. The renovations included a new kitchen, conveyor belt system, interior and lighting. The store now is an identical replica of its Durban North branch opened in October 2013.

Bamboo Sushi Lounge was opened in Umhlanga 6-years ago by Albert Liu, a passionate and driven Umhlanga local, who felt he needed to re-invent the sushi dining industry and take innovation to the next level. Since then, Bamboo has grown from strength to strength and now has 2 stores, one in the heart of Umhlanga and one in Durban North on Umhlanga Rocks Drive. Albert’s dream is to grow his chain of stores into a large franchise spreading the Bamboo ideology and brand all over South Africa.

Bamboo is one of the longest standing sushi restaurants in Durban and is also one of the first to branch out into other stores. They accredit this to good food and good service, another element of the business that Bamboo has been focusing on improving over the last few months through training and consultation with one of Durban’s best restaurant consultants. Bamboo have also employed the assistance of experts to develop various elements of an already winning business recipe. From the food, to the drink, to the service, and to the brand itself, Bamboo have stepped up to perfect their game and are eager to take Durban sushi-lovers under their wing.

Bamboo still have their legendary sushi buffet for both lunch and dinner time at a cost of R95 and R165 respectively. Take away orders are still ½ price everyday which will continue to please last-minute-sushi-cravers. The most exciting addition to the Bamboo concept is its innovative “Special Dishes” which will differ each day giving Albert and his team an opportunity to experiment with exciting and delicious sushi dish options. These will be available with the other specialty dishes on the Al ‘a Carte menu. As always, a Chinese food menu is available for those who don’t feel like sushi. Corporate catering is also available for parties and functions at incredibly affordable prices.
