Checkers Battle of the Braai Competition

Due to bad weather conditions the much anticipated Battle of the Braai Competition at Durbanville Racecourse has been postponed to Saturday 19 October.

The competition however is expected to be a hotly contested cook-off as organisers continue to receive an overwhelming number of entries.

Everyone is free to enter with no entrance fee required! 

With the mercury rising and Spring in the air, it appears that everyone is eager to head trackside to Durbanville Racecourse for a day of racing with a tasty twist!

The beautiful country race track will host the Checkers Battle of the Braai Competition on 19 October, alongside a fun family day, stacked with quality thoroughbred racing and plenty of fun for the kids.

Brush shoulders with the celebrity judges who will be on hand to judge the Battle of the Braai Competition generously sponsored by Checkers.

There are still a few spots available for the competition and entrants must adhere to the following guidelines.

Contestants are required to create a mouth-watering recipe with the wide selection of quality A-grade meat available at Checkers including their Steakhouse Classic extra matured steaks, Championship Boerewors and Certified Natural Lamb.

All meat must be purchased at the following stores, Checkers Durbanville, Checkers Willow Village and Checkers Hyper Brackenfell. Entry forms for the Checkers Battle of the Braai competition are available from these stores. Contestants simply need to fill out the entry form and attach the cash receipt of their meat purchase.

The winner will walk away with a R5000 Checkers voucher; second place will receive a R2500 Checkers voucher and third place a R500 Checkers voucher. Each of the top three winners will also receive a lovely hamper of products from the sponsors, Checkers.

2013 finalist in the Shoprite Group’s Topstars staff talent competition Abigail Andrew’s and MC Martin Odendall will provide the entertainment for the day.

Race goers can also enjoy the relaxing vibe of the Beer Garden, come and taste Checkers’ exclusive Odd Bins wines – wines from leading estates at a fraction of the price – and visit the Checkers Championship Boerewors stand where they will be selling South Africa’s best.

A fabulous arts and craft market will also keep the adults entertained while kiddie’s activities will ensure the younger set are kept busy.

As usual there will be a quality racing line-up to keep the adrenalin of a day at the races pumping!
