What is happening at Homestead at Vergenoegd Löw for Restaurant Week?

Tea time gets a distinctly Cape Winelands makeover at Homestead at Vergenoegd Löw, where the historic Homestead Farm Tea Experience takes guests on a journey through indigenous flavours, farm-table traditions and nostalgic South African treats.

Restaurant Week South Africa runs from 25 September to 1 November 2026, with more than 200 restaurants nationally serving exclusive menus.

Set within the beautifully restored 1773 Homestead at Vergenoegd Löw Wine Estate, the experience draws on Cape traditions and local ingredients. The journey begins with indigenous flavours associated with the Cederberg and Rooibos, before moving to the generous Cape farm table and finishing with a collection of traditional sweet treats.

The opening selection includes Roosterkoek with traditional Teewurst spread, Savoury Baked Cheesecake with onion marmalade, Cape Malay flavours and Khoisan-inspired beetroot relish, Smoked Snoek Pâté with cheese crackers, and Goose Terrine with Cape tawny jelly and savoury fruit ketchup.

The farm-table section brings Mosbolletjie & Heritage Seed Loaf, served with Seared Dexter Beef with kapokbos spice, sweet mustard and a pickled onion, radish and pomegranate relish. Coronation Chicken comes with indigenous buchu herbs, while Pickled Cucumber is paired with dill and amasi-infused sour cream.

Then comes the sweet finale, with a collection of nostalgic favourites including Koekjes, Milk Tart, Moerkoffie Chocolate Tea Cake, Lemon Meringue Tart and Mini Himbeerkonfitüre Oliebollen. The Moerkoffie Chocolate Tea Cake is specifically recommended with a cup of Moerkoffie.

The experience also includes a Carrot Cake as a parting gift, inspired by an era when carrots were used in European confectionery when sugar was scarce.

The beverage collection gives the Farm Tea Experience plenty to sip on, with a selection of indigenous infusions, speciality teas and small-batch coffees. Indigenous options include Smaak Rooibos, Blomme Green Rooibos & Honeybush and Lekker Red Cappuccino. Cold Rooibos Creations include Green Rooibos Drop and Cape Sparkling Rooibos.

Classic black teas include Mooi Breakfast Tea and Sevilla Earl Grey, while herbal and floral choices include Bossie Chamomile, Pakhuys Mint and Honeybush & Rose Infusion. Coffee drinkers can choose from Espresso, Americano, Cappuccino, Flat White, Caffè Latte, Cortado and Macchiato.

The Homestead Farm Tea Experience fits neatly into the character of Vergenoegd Löw, where historic Cape Dutch architecture, seasonal farm produce and Cape heritage come together in the Stellenbosch Winelands. The experience offers a contemporary interpretation of South African and Cape tea traditions, with Rooibos, honeybush, farm bakes and local favourites woven into the afternoon.

At R520 per person, it is an opportunity to explore a very different side of Winelands dining, one involving Rooibos, roosterkoek, snoek pâté, Milk Tart and plenty of reasons to put the kettle on.

The Restaurant Week experience is valid until 1 November 2026, and dietary preferences should be indicated on the reservation form. Book your table now!
