At Den Anker, light bites don’t feel like an afterthought.
They read more like a curated mix of Belgian comfort and coastal flavour, designed for sharing, grazing, or building your own casual spread at the V&A Waterfront.
Seafood leads the way.
- The Sesame Tuna (R150) arrives lightly seared, paired with wasabi mayo and a light soya dressing that keeps things fresh and balanced. The Mini Moules Marinières (R130) offers half a kilo of mussels done the Belgian way, simple and satisfying. For something crisp, the Tempura Prawns (R155) bring a panko crunch with sweet chilli and tartare on the side, while the Patagonian Baby Squid (R150) keeps it clean with olive oil and a hint of chilli.
There’s plenty for those leaning toward richer, more classic bites.
- The Bitterballen (R90) delivers that familiar Dutch favourite—crispy on the outside, filled with a rich beef ragout, served with mustard. The Cheese Croquettes (R95) double down on indulgence with matured Gouda and Parmesan in a golden crumb. And for something unmistakably Belgian, Pommes Frites & Mayo (R50) does exactly what it promises, no extras needed.
The menu also caters to variety.
- The Roasted Cauliflower & Hummus (R65) adds a lighter, plant-forward option, while Oysters (R35 each) keep things fresh and minimal. For a more substantial bite, the Tapas Fillet Béarnaise (R170) serves tender filet cubes on rocket, and the Tapas Pork Ribs (R190) bring a sticky, barbecue finish. The Os à Moëlle (R80) rounds things off with marrow bones in a light bouillon, served with brioche toast for something a little more indulgent.
These are dishes that work just as well ordered one at a time as they do spread across a table. It’s easy, unfussy dining that suits the setting—good food, good company, and a harbour view that encourages guests to stay a little longer.
