What is happening at The Chef’s Table at 54 on Bath for Restaurant Week?

Restaurant Week South Africa returns from 25 September to 1 November 2026, bringing exclusive menus to more than 200 restaurants across the country.

The campaign offers two-course lunches from R195 and three-course dinners from R295, giving diners plenty of reason to discover somewhere new, revisit an old favourite or finally book the restaurant they have been meaning to try.

  • For a rather more elaborate dinner, The Chef’s Table at 54 on Bath in Rosebank, Johannesburg, is offering a 9-course Chef’s Table journey for R1,595 per person. Bookings are available through restaurantweek.co.za, with VIP bookings opening from 14 September 2026.

This is not a case of sitting quietly at a table while dinner happens somewhere behind the scenes. The Chef’s Table is positioned inside the kitchen, giving diners a view of the action taking place during service. The experience is led by the Level Four kitchen brigade, with the chef and sommelier on hand to guide guests through the evening.

The Chef’s Table is a single communal table for four, with bookings structured as either two bookings of two or one booking of four. The experience is available Monday to Sunday at 6:30pm, and is for dinner only.

What is included in the 9-course journey?

The nine-course menu starts with Wild Mushroom, served with tuile, sesame dressing and mushroom biltong. The second course moves into the sea with Lobster Tartare, accompanied by red pepper “tiger’s milk”, sweet pickled cucumber and caviar.

Atlantic Scallops follow with sweetcorn velouté, charred baby corn and citrus beurre blanc. The fourth course brings together Confit Duck & Mushroom Raviolo, shimeji mushrooms and foie royal velouté.

A Champagne Sorbet with lemongrass foam provides the fifth course before the menu moves into its meat course, Blackened Lamb Loin with potato pavé, celeriac purée, oyster mushroom and jus.

The seventh course changes pace again with Gruberg 12 Month Mature, which is 18-hour cold oak smoked and served with compressed pear.

For dessert, Blackberry Semifreddo combines chocolate almond sponge, raspberry broth and chocolate tuile. The ninth and final course is Bon Bon, featuring mango macaron and nougat.

The menu is designed as a full culinary journey, with seasonal ingredients influencing the dishes. Diners can also choose an optional paired wine experience for R950 per person.

To confirm a booking, The Chef’s Table at 54 on Bath requires a deposit payment. The deposit link expires after 48 hours, the deposit is deducted from the final bill, and bookings that are not confirmed within that period are automatically cancelled. Guests should also indicate their dietary preferences on the reservation form.

With the kitchen directly surrounding the table and nine courses moving from wild mushroom and lobster tartare through scallops, raviolo, lamb, mature cheese and dessert, this Restaurant Week offering is aimed at diners who enjoy seeing the craft behind the plate as much as eating it.
