Eat@Simonsvlei is a wonderful restaurant conveniently located between Paarl and Stellenbosch where you can eat al fresco on the terrace overlooking the lush lawns as well as a beautiful pond. On cooler days, you can also move indoors where you can sit next to a inviting fireplace to warm you up while having breakfast or lunch.
The outside area also gives you the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful picnic with a loved one or family next to the pond while a huge play area for the kids is set up that will keep them entertained for hours.
The menu at Eat@Simonsvlei offers laid back country style food with the pork belly and lamb shoulder standing out immediately. Sharing platters that include bobotie spring rolls, chicken wings and quiches also look very nice and are reasonably priced. I had the chance to enjoy a lovely lunch here a few weeks ago, choosing the Pork Belly for my main and rounding off the meal with a decadent chocolate mousse.
Main: Pork Belly (R140)
The 300g portion was served with chips and veggies as well as a home-made apple sauce. Perfectly cooked, the pork belly was juicy and tender with the crackling giving just the right amount of crunch. The refreshing apple sauce was delightful and was an excellent partner for the pork belly.
Dessert: Kahlua Chocolate Mousse (R40)
The chocolate mousse was made with the popular Kahlua liqueur adding hints of bittersweet coffee flavours to a wonderful little dessert. It was delicious and a great way to end your meal.
Eat@Simonsvlei is serving breakfast 9 am – 12pm and lunch until 5 pm every Tuesday – Sunday. With a well-thought out menu, you will definitely find something that tickles your fancy. Your kids will enjoy their stay too with a delightful kiddies menu available and a huge outside play area that will have them running around for hours.
It’s a great restaurant to visit for family outings on any day of the week.
