At Trail’s End Adventure Hotel, a long weekend in April comes with a clear instruction: slow down the journey, and enjoy the ride.
From 24–27 April 2026, the Railway Wine Festival transforms the valley into a lively mix of wine, food, and music, all centred around the Elgin Railway Market.
But getting there is part of the experience.
- Instead of traffic, guests can board a vintage train with Ceres Rail Company, travelling from Cape Town or Van der Stel Station into Elgin. It’s a slower, more considered arrival, one that sets the tone before the first glass is even poured. For those joining later, there’s also the option to hop on at Bot River for a shorter ride.
The weekend doesn’t stop at the festival gates.
Trail’s End turns the visit into a full escape. Set in the heart of the valley, the hotel offers access to world-class mountain biking trails that wind through forests, vineyards, and fynbos-covered slopes. It’s the kind of terrain that invites both serious riders and casual explorers.
The Rails to Trails packages keep things straightforward. Two nights’ accommodation, dinner, and MTB permits are included, with options for ensuite or shared stays. It’s a practical setup that leaves more time for riding, tasting, and relaxing.
Guests can choose between two straightforward options:
- Ensuite Stay – R4 600 (2 guests)
Includes 2 nights’ accommodation, 1 dinner, and MTB permits - Shared Bathroom Stay – R3 400 (2 guests)
Includes 2 nights’ accommodation, 1 dinner, and MTB permits
No extras to figure out. No separate planning. Just arrive and get into it.
One of the highlights comes on Sunday with the “Rails & Ride” experience. Guests can catch the train from the market to Bot River with their bikes, then cycle back via Katpas, stopping at Paul Cluver Estate for wood-fired pizza along the way. It’s equal parts effort and reward.
Back at Trail’s End, things slow down again. Good food, a relaxed atmosphere, and a team that helps with the details, from shuttle transfers to local recommendations, make the stay feel easy from start to finish.

Because sometimes the best weekends aren’t rushed. They’re ridden, sipped, and stretched out just enough to remember.
