Windhoek Beer Marinade, Beer Bread and Beer Honey Glaze Recipe

The saying is sun’s out, braai’s out, right? Right? Anyway, the sun is out and so are we – with Windhoek Beer in hand (and food) and ready for summer.

We’re a big fan of burgers, because everyone can get involved in making theirs, their perfect meal. We marinated the beef patties and giant mushrooms in the same Windhoek Beer BBQ marinade and topped the burgers with lettuce, guacamole, sliced tomato, onion, and a smoky cheddar cheese. On the side we had charred mielies and a spinach salad with feta and red onion. Oh, and let’s not forget the most buttery Windhoek Beer bread imaginable, because why not?

Windhoek Beer BBQ Pattie Marinade

This stuff is so good and easy to make. Honestly, you can alter the amounts and even the ingredients based on what you have in your fridge and pantry. It needs a mix of salty, sweet, a little bit sour, and it’s all brought together with a Windhoek Beer.

  • 200ml Windhoek Beer
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • ½ cup chutney
  • 1 tablespoon Worchestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed

Mix all the ingredients together and slather all over whatever you’re braaiing. Leave some aside for basting.

Sticky, spicy Windhoek Beer Kebabs

I am opening this section with: don’t lick the spoon, don’t put your finger on a dot that falls out of the pot. Nothing. It will melt off your face. Ok, warning over.

  • ¾ Windhoek Beer
  • ½  cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon red chilli flakes, or to taste
  • Kebab sticks
  • Baby Tomatoes
  • Red Onion
  • Button Mushrooms
  • Green Peppers
  • Anything else you like on a kebab J

Add all the ingredients into the sauce pan on a low heat, stirring until the honey is melted and let it reduce. Keep an eye on it as it goes very thick. You can always add a little more beer if need be. Brush on the glaze just before you throw them on the braai.

Buttery Windhoek Beer Bread

This stuff is dangerous. It’s just too easy to make and too delicious. The recipe makes a light and fluffy inside with a crispy, buttery crust. After our braai, we sat on the couch and just ate it all afternoon. No regrets.

  • 1 Windhoek Beer
  • 3 cups flour, sifted
  • ½ cup melted butter
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder (leave this out if you have self-raising flour)
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  1. Preheat oven to 190 degrees.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients and the beer, then pour them into a greased loaf pan.
  3. Melt the butter and pour it over the mixture.
  4. Bake for 1 hour (check at 50 minutes), remove from the loaf pan and cool.
