The Dutch

The Dutch, Umhlanga’s much-loved music and tapas bar, has been given a brand new look and officially re-opened its doors on Friday the 4th of March.  This local hot spot now classes itself as a premium dining and entertainment experience.

The original decor still exists, think exposed raw brick, white subway tiles, a marble topped bar, retro copper piping and fittings and parquet and mosaic tiled floors., but now added to this is classic white tablecloths, elegant lanterns and silver service. More then a century old, the pressed ceiling panels in the courtyard have also been restored and lovingly re-fitted into their original place.

The brand new 100-seater space, with tables both inside and out, will allow you to sit back and enjoy a delicious meal while enjoying premium live entertainment.  The Dutch welcomes live acts from all genres to the stage, including jazz, funk, pop and more, and the new entertainment programme will now also cater for stand-up comedy. With Durban’s live comedy scene heating up, it’s great that another venue is opening up its stage to support the incredible and hilarious comedic talent that calls this East Coast city home.

In the past, The Dutch has hosted talents such as Jessie Clegg, Jack Parow, Arno Carstens and aKing and look forward to hosting many more exciting live entertainment acts and artists in the future.

On the Menu

A new menu, inspired by the 70’s, has also been introduced and draws inspiration from cuisine and flavours from around the world.  “The new menu is simple and sophisticated, yet uncomplicated,” explains food guru and The Dutch’s head chef and chief operations manager, Clifford Barratt, who developed the menu.  “We investigated trends in dining and health and incorporated them into our ethos of always using quality ingredients.”

There really is something for everyone, from a killer burger enjoyed with craft beer, to Asian inspired Norwegian salmon or a Middle Eastern style lentil fritter and hummus dish.

The Dutch is open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings and patrons can enjoy scrumptious cocktails and delicious tapas until 7pm, thereafter settle in for a delicious three-course meal from the dinner menu on offer. There will be a cover charge on Saturday evenings and you can view the exclusive entertainment line-up.

Function Hire

Not only does the The Dutch offer a great dining experience, it can also be hired out for corporate or private events, end year functions and birthday parties. Whatever your heart desires, The Dutch crew can make it happen!
