The<\/a><\/span> Marine<\/span> Stewardship<\/span> Council<\/span> <\/a>(MSC)<\/a>,<\/span> the<\/span> ocean<\/span> not-for-profit<\/span> responsible<\/span> for<\/span> the<\/span> world\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>leading<\/span> sustainable seafood ecolabel, has launched its<\/span> highly<\/span> anticipated<\/span> \u2018<\/span>Ocean Cookbook 2023<\/span>\u2019<\/span>. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>free digital cookbook<\/strong><\/a> brings together chefs and fishers from all over the world to create a collection\u00a0<\/span>of healthy, delicious everyday recipes that tell a sustainability story about the seafood we all love.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The ocean is a vital part of human life on our planet. It provides daily protein for over a billion people, it\u00a0<\/span>is a reliable source of food for billions more, and 200 million people are employed directly or indirectly by\u00a0<\/span>the seafood industry. But our ocean needs help: overfishing, illegal and destructive fishing, and climate\u00a0<\/span>change not only negatively impact species and ecosystems, but communities too.\u00a0<\/span>The cookbook highlights how easy it is to rustle up affordable, healthy, easy-to-make and sustainable\u00a0<\/span>seafood dishes at home<\/span> \u2013<\/span> suitable for the whole family. The cookbook is the centerpiece of the MS<\/span>C\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>communications and marketing campaign for the new year, traditionally a time for healthy and more\u00a0<\/span>environmentally conscious eating.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Louanne Mostert, Senior Communications Manager for the MSC<\/span> adds<\/span>:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A new year is a new start and a\u00a0<\/span>new opportunity to make better choices and take care of our ocean for future generations. At the MSC,\u00a0<\/span>we recognise all seafood consumers for supporting sustainable fisheries through your purchasing choices.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>When you buy seafood with the blue MSC label on pack, you\u2019re helping to protect oceans, livelihoods and\u00a0<\/span>fish for the future.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201c<\/span>That is why we need to put measures in place now so that our kids<\/span> \u2013<\/span> future generations<\/span> \u2013<\/span> also benefit\u00a0<\/span>from the ocean. That is why we work with the MSC to ensure we minimise our impact on the marine\u00a0<\/span>environment,\u201d said<\/span> Wilfred Esau, Skipper at Irvin & Johnson (I&J)<\/span>, as part of the South African hake\u00a0<\/span>fishery which has been certified as sustainable since 2004.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Included in the choice of recipes are a simple and delicious Cape hake recipe by<\/span> South Africa<\/span>\u2019<\/span>s much\u00a0<\/span>adored chef and nutritionist, Naledi Toona.<\/span> \u201cCoo<\/span>king has always been an act of love for me and hake is\u00a0<\/span>such a versatile, sustainable and quick to cook ingredient. It allows me to show love to my family, today,\u00a0<\/span>and to those in the future<\/span>,\u201d she adds.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The cookbook includes stunning photography from<\/span> internationally renowned food photographer, David\u00a0<\/span>Loftus<\/span>, who has worked with Jamie Oliver throughout his career. David Loftus is a great believer in\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>sustainable fishing:<\/span> \u201cThis goes way beyond food. It\u2019s about the future of our Ocean. We need to step up\u00a0<\/span>to the pl<\/span>ate right now<\/span>,<\/span> or we\u2019re in deep water.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The MSC invites all seafood consumers to join in their global movement<\/span> \u201c<\/span>Big Blue Future<\/span>\u201d<\/span> by cooking\u00a0<\/span>sustainable<\/span> seafood<\/span> from<\/span> their<\/span> new<\/span> cookbook.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n
