For some it means watching whatever game is on with intensity and passion. For some it means watching when South Africa (whooohooo!) is playing. For some (me) it means deciding what snacks can I eat while other people watch the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.food-blog.co.za\/joburg\/tag\/watch-rugby-johannesburg-restaurants\/\">rugby<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-75883\" src=\"http:\/\/www.food-blog.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Windhoek-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"950\" height=\"250\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s World Vegetarian Day and its World Vegetarian Awareness month, so we found a veg-based snack that veggies and carnivores can both tuck in to.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fondue is from Switzerland, so traditional cheeses are Emmental or Gruy\u00e8re. We used cheddar because it\u2019s more affordable, but go forth and experiment!<\/li>\n<li>If you eat meat, you could add meaty dippers like sausage pieces into the mix, but it\u2019s not necessary.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t forget to coat the cheese in flour or cornstarch before you melt it. It stops it from getting clumpy. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seriouseats.com\/2015\/02\/how-to-make-the-best-cheese-fondue.html\">Science!<\/a><\/li>\n<li>If your fondue gets too thick in the fondue pot, add a little milk and stir.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-76301\" src=\"http:\/\/www.food-blog.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Fondue-One.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1150\" height=\"767\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Fondue Ingredients<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1\u00a0onion, chopped finely<\/li>\n<li>4\u00a0cloves\u00a0garlic,\u00a0crushed<\/li>\n<li>1\u00a0tablespoon\u00a0butter<\/li>\n<li>1\u00a0 Windhoek Beer<\/li>\n<li>800g\u00a0cheddar cheese, grated<\/li>\n<li>1\u00a0tablespoon\u00a0flour or cornstarch<\/li>\n<li>2-4\u00a0tablespoons milk<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Method<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Toss your grated cheese and flour in small bowl and set aside.<\/li>\n<li>Over a medium heat, melt butter in a small pot.<\/li>\n<li>Add onion, then after a few minutes the garlic, and saut\u00e9 until tender, not brown.<\/li>\n<li>Pour your Windhoek Beer into the mix and bring it to a boil.<\/li>\n<li>Reduce heat to medium-low and stir in your cheese-flour combo.<\/li>\n<li>Mix in 2 tablespoons of milk.<\/li>\n<li>Carefully pour into your fondue pot to keep warm.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Dipper Ideas<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Crusty Bread<\/li>\n<li>Boiled baby potatoes or cubed large potatoes<\/li>\n<li>Steamed broccoli and cauliflower florets<\/li>\n<li>Grilled whole button mushrooms<\/li>\n<li>Sliced apple<\/li>\n<li>Artichokes<\/li>\n<li>Roasted whole brussel sprouts<\/li>\n<li>Fresh bell peppers<\/li>\n<li>Steamed asparagus<\/li>\n<li>Steamed green beans<\/li>\n<li>Pickled onions<\/li>\n<li>Pickled cucumbers<\/li>\n<li>Big pasta shapes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/basicfront.easypromosapp.com\/p\/942370?micro=1&amp;utm_source=widget&amp;utm_medium=embed\" width=\"100%\" height=\"990\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With the 2019 Rugby World Cup in full swing, it means a lot of things for a lot of people.
