De Vos walked away with a top of\u00a0the range Elba gas-electrical stove and Whirlpool Jet microwave oven from Hirsch\u201fs, plus\u00a0R10 000 cash.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The panel of judges included highly respected chefs, expert bakers and celebrities including\u00a0Khan Morbee from The Parlotones and Katlego Maboe from SABC3\u201fs Expresso Show. The contest\u00a0was the brainchild of Hilary Biller, Sunday Times Food Weekly Editor who used the competition as\u00a0chance to uncover those treasured chocolate cake recipes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.food-blog.co.za\/joburg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/ST-ChocCake-Winner-Simone-Vos.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-64\" alt=\"ST ChocCake Winner Simone Vos\" src=\"http:\/\/www.food-blog.co.za\/joburg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/ST-ChocCake-Winner-Simone-Vos.jpg\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.food-blog.co.za\/joburg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/ST-ChocCake-Winner-Simone-Vos.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.food-blog.co.za\/joburg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/ST-ChocCake-Winner-Simone-Vos-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSimone\u201fs Sinful Chocolate Strawberry cake combines lots of dark chocolate in a moist, rich\u00a0cake; creamy fudge icing; lashings of whipped cream; strawberries for freshness and &#8212; the final\u00a0touch &#8212; flaky milk chocolate wrapped around the outside. Cakes were assessed on originality,\u00a0texture and flavour, and Simone\u201fs winner had all these elements, with a delicious boldness to\u00a0boot.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Simone\u201fs baking shows astonishing maturity and confidence. She is one of a growing\u00a0number of young people taking up this rewarding hobby that makes its recipients so happy,\u201d\u00a0said Sue de Groot, Sunday Times Food Weekly Managing Editor\u00a0De Vos, a resident from Alberton said the secret to her winning recipe is that she has a heavy\u00a0hand with cocoa and hopes the competition will open doors for her in the baking industry. \u201cI\u00a0cannot imagine anything more satisfying than baking cakes for a living. I hope that this will bring\u00a0me one step closer to making a career out of baking,\u201d commented de Vos.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Second place was awarded to a grade 12 learner, Emma van Zyl from Darling and third place\u00a0to Gabriella Esposito from Cape Town.
