{"id":15324,"date":"2024-02-14T15:18:23","date_gmt":"2024-02-14T13:18:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.food-blog.co.za\/joburg\/?p=15324"},"modified":"2024-03-14T21:40:52","modified_gmt":"2024-03-14T19:40:52","slug":"a-behind-the-bar-take-on-valentines-cocktails-with-angostura","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.food-blog.co.za\/joburg\/a-behind-the-bar-take-on-valentines-cocktails-with-angostura\/","title":{"rendered":"A behind-the-bar take on Valentine\u2019s Cocktails with ANGOSTURA\u00ae"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A Valentine\u2019s dinner without the perfect cocktail is like a love story missing its plot twist \u2013 which is why we are taking a look behind the bar at some of our favourite local experts\u2019 go-to V-day sips.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Matthew Cox from <em>Queen\u2019s Bar<\/em> keeps it simple with an effortlessly elegant Champagne Cocktail \u2013 easy to make, easy to enjoy!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>All you have to do is \u201csoak a sugar cube in ANGOSTURA\u00ae aromatic bitters, then drop it into a Flute [glass] with a healthy pour of quality brandy, topped with your favourite sparkling wine and garnished with an orange twist\u201d and <em>voila!<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Champagne Cocktail<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Ingredients:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>75ml sparkling wine<\/li>\n<li>10ml brandy<\/li>\n<li>1 sugar cube<\/li>\n<li>3-5 dashes ANGOSTURA\u00ae aromatic bitters<\/li>\n<li>Orange twist<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Method:<\/p>\n<p>Soak the sugar cube with the bitters, then place into a flute glass. Add in the brandy, then top up with sparkling wine. Finally, garnish with an orange twist.<\/p>\n<p><em>Tjing Tjing\u2019s<\/em> Phillip Burrows attests that a \u2018good old Manhattan\u2019 is his cocktail of choice for the holiday of love (you can\u2019t go wrong with a classic!). \u201cANGOSTURA\u00ae aromatic and orange bitters, a good bourbon and quality vermouth with a spray of rose water\u201d is all you need to make the evening special!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Good Old Manhattan<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Ingredients:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>75ml bourbon<\/li>\n<li>30ml sweet vermouth<\/li>\n<li>2-3 dashes ANGOSTURA\u00ae aromatic bitters<\/li>\n<li>1-2 dashes ANGOSTURA\u00ae orange bitters<\/li>\n<li>Spray of rosewater<\/li>\n<li>Orange peel<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Method:<\/p>\n<p>Fill a martini glass with ice to chill while you mix the Manhattan.<\/p>\n<p>Add the bourbon, vermouth, bitters and a spray of rosewater to a shaker with a few ice cubes, then stir or shake gently. Remove ice from the glass and strain Manhattan into glass. Garnish with an orange peel.<\/p>\n<p>Nick Crouse from <em>Talking to Strangers<\/em> says he \u201clike[s] to make a twist on a French 75 with a <em>sous vide<\/em> strawberry syrup and a dash of ANGOSTURA\u00ae orange bitters\u201d.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>French 75 (with a Valentine\u2019s twist)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Ingredients:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>35ml London Dry Gin<\/li>\n<li>20ml strawberry syrup<\/li>\n<li>20ml fresh lemon juice<\/li>\n<li>50ml MCC<\/li>\n<li>2 dashes ANGOSTURA\u00ae orange bitters<\/li>\n<li>Rose petal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Method:<\/p>\n<p>Add the gin, lemon juice and simple syrup into a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled. Strain into a flute glass.
